    Added another Military Rifle to my Collection

    Talked to a friend the other day and he was telling me that Tanners GS had a very nice looking SKS in there store. Now most of you know I've been looking for a deal on one to add to my military rifle collection. So yesterday I went to take a look at it. After looking it over I put a deposit on it and went back today to pick it up. This thing is so sweet the bore is excellent and the price was even sweeter for one in this area. Usually there about $80 to $100 more than what I paid. Form everything I could find out from the serial # F-1787xx it was made towards the end of 1969. All #'s match but I'm not sure that means a whole lot. I bought two 25 count boxes of Tula Ammo for it while I was there for $5.25 a box. I don't know if that is a good price or not but at the time I didn't really care.

    Sweet find. Love going in that store. Except on Saturdays when I can get in there, it's 4 deep at the counters.

      I want one. I've been searching for a good semi-auto 30 cal to use as a pig gun, I figure the 7.62x39 is a great choice. That deal I was working on the AK fell through, so I figured that I would shag an SKS, but not at $400. Maybe a mini-30 is in the future.
      Attitude: it takes 43 muscles to frown, 17 to smile...and 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

      The olive branch is considered a symbol of peace, and good will. Last time I checked, it's still a switch.

            Thank you gentilemen. I had my hands on a couple of these rifles over the last couple of months that were priced from $349 to around the $380 +/- mark.
            At that price and already having a 30/30 336 Marlin that shoots about the same round as far as power goes I just couldn't get the money out of my wallet to buy one. Plus I really like shooting that 30/30. When My friend told me he saw this one at $269 I was a little bit sceptical about it because it sounded like it was to cheap but thought I'd take a look anyway. I have to admit I was supprised to see the condition of it because it is actually in nicer condition than many of the others I looked at. This is one time that patience and waiting for the right deal to come along paid off, as it must have been in someones collection because it was already cleaned up and the sling looks almost new. Now I can buy a pretty fare amount of ammo with the money I saved. Todays my birthday and this made it so much better. rifles 012.jpg

              Nice find. I have a nice sks too. That flash suppressor looks aftermarket. Williams makes a nice set of fiber optic sights for the gun, not very expensive either.

                That might look like a flash suppressor but it's really a grenade launcher. Thanks I'll check them out.

                        sold mine Popeye about a month ago, it was totally new, Romamnian, build machined receiver, threaded barrel grenade launcher with flip up grenade sights and dual folddown front sight. cleaning kit in butt stock, stock was totally miilary, no replacement. I have had it for about 12 years and just got tired of seeingi it not used. I won't tell u what I sold it for, asI sold it to my buddy. this was really onequality well made rifle. I had never fired it even. I also sold him the remaining half case of ammo that I brought with me when I sold the business 15 years ago, are u ready for this. the boxes were marked by me back then 20 rounds for $2.50
                        . My PM9 has over 34,000+ rounds through it, and runs much better than an illegal trying to get across our border

                          See alot of them on the Yugo's. I believe some people drill holes in the side to give the appearance of it being a flash suppressor but the hole in the end is quite a bit bigger then the bore. About a 1/2" in size.

                            they were called the yugoslavian model 59/66. one fine rifle, the gas cutoff part is really neat for the grenade launcher. I think back then they came to the U.S/. under the curio and relic exemption as the bayonet was let attached... Helleven the re4ar super adjustable sights on mine were totally machined. It just eaked in quality..

                              Jocko your right these things are quality. There built like a tank. All the milling that was done to these rifles would cost a furtune today. The only import marks I see on it is on the barrel hidden by the cleaning rod and bayonette. Samco Mia. Fla. M59/66A1. Yugo 7.62 X39. I believe the Yugo's were the only SKS's that came with a rubber butt pad because of the grenade launcher. With the grenade launcher you can fire the rifle in Semi auto mode or you can shoot it like a bolt action rifle by hand cycling the next round to be fired. Some people believe it is actually more accurate in the single fire mode. I'll have to do my own test on this and see how I feel about that. Either way today I'm a pretty happy 66 years young camper.
