Woman Shot While Hugging Off Duty Cop

Msnbc quoted an expert saying the gun holstered IWB in order to hit the woman's heart while hugging from behind would need to be rotated at least 110 degrees.

The Chief was quoted saying there was some manipulation in the officer's waist band that took place beyond his control.

Guns just don't go bang in a holster when someone hugs another person.

This story can only add up in Detroit everywhere else someone would be in jail.

just a very bad situtation. sounds like their was someserious hugging going on to cause what happened andespecially anIWB holster.

Just not sure how much at fault that officer was even. Hell he has to have his weapon in some position to be used. U just can't carry the bullets in ur pocket and then load when needed. although a party should have been different but again sh!t happens at parties to. Just not a good thing, expecially for the 25 year old..Not sure we even know enough of what actually happened, so I don't want to prejudge the officer, Not like he was playing with his gun or anything and we don'tknow what kind of IWB rig he had either to make any evaualation. U IWB wearers are more qualified to talk on this subject than someone like me who never carry's IWB.

What troubles me about the story is if you hug someone packing even in a holster you can die.

I don't profess to be no expert but a striker fired gun can only go bang if the trigger is pulled.

We may never know the whole story but in my mind I think of a hug as an upright embrace with hands above the waist.

The chief on msnbc said there was some manipulation beyond the officer's control going on in his waistband.

I think based on the chief's quote we could reasonably conclude it was more than a hug by my definition.

Regardless very sad but also frustrating for all conceal carriers trying to project to the public that packing is safe if done properly using the right equipment.

do we know if it was a wheel gun or semi. I have not heard of the model of the gun either. this could tell us alot ur right on the striker thing but look at the kimbersolo, it is striker fired and they callit a single action for that gun is 90% cocked and ready to go. If that damn safety got knocked off or was no even on, u have an accident waiting to happen. Eventually we will know of the gun model and certainly the holster rig to. both will give us some insight. Hell of a hug huh??? Just sayin. I guerss thatis why I love my PM9 in my uncle mikes or desantis. That trigger area is totally covered and if a gals hands are in my pocket, hopefully she is looking for ol jocko's musket. Just sayhin.

P.S. she was shot in the heart while allegedly the service pistol was holstered IWB. That last part is what makes the whole hugging from behind just not add up. MSNBC quoted an expert saying the gun would need to rotate at least 110 degrees in the holster to strike the heart. We are not getting the whole story. The chief was quoted saying there was some manipulation in the officers waistband beyond his control. Sounds like more than a hug and that is what troubles me about how the story was reported. Based on the info a reasonable reader could conclude IWB is not safe.

sounds like the typical glock triggers, very little travel tomake the boom thing happen, probalby trigger safety only, which we know is not fool proof. wow a 40 cal to, bet that tore her up big time. surprised he didn't even get some damage..

What is somewhat strange to me is that the officer said he didn't know the lady...If she went up behing him with a M&P holstered IWB and she somehow unbuckled his belt and his pants fell down as they will do with the weight of a service pistol not supported then the gun could have rotated enough to have pointed at her torso and the officer who suddenly felt his pants falling off would naturally have grabbed for the loose pistol and possibly touched the trigger enough to fire...

This is pure speculation on my part but sounds plausible and may be why we aren't hearing the whole story...In any case it's a very sad story for the woman's family and the poor officer who didn't see it coming...

I'll go further since I studied from Bawanna on how to read people and situations.

She was a cop groupie, bottle dirty blond mid thirties to 40, 5' 5" brown eyes, divorced, tramp stamp of a celtic knot on lower back....he is 6' a sloppy 230lbs bro/bro, in a relationship but not to her. They are at a party and she wanted to show her appreciation for LEOs. A few drinks a little chat and she wanted to make this a quick one--- possibly behind the pool house or the shed in the backyard. Things got careless in their haste and she got shot. He doesnt know her was his line to protect his relationship situation, and it was a "hug". The thin blue line comes into play and the story sticks.
