  • Anybody seen the new Springfield 45 XDS single stack?

Looks like they are looking to compete directly against the PM45.

I've had a couple Springfield 45's, they were good shooters and I liked them but they always seemed a bit on they heavy side relative to their size to me.

I would really like to get my hands on one of these just to see how they shoot. I'm also very interested in the XDMs they released! They seem like a great shooting gun, but completely illegal here in Cali. A buddy of mine back home in Ohio continues to rub it in my face.. Supposedly pretty nice, but I wouldn't know.

I'll be looking at one sooner or later but right now the GS around near home can't get them or there gone before they ever see the store shelves. The local guy tells me he has orders for about 40 of them. So I'm guessing it's going to be some time before they ever get one to actually put on the shelf.
Without question Springfield, and S&W with there M&P series pistols is giving other companies all they can handle. Even some of the local PD's are switching from there Glocks to M&P's. I really do not believe Springfield is to concerned about competeing with the PM45. Kahr has there niche for sure with there line of pistols and do it very well but Springfield is in direct competition with the bigger boys and doing a darned good job of holding there own.

I had one. Put 355 rounds through it. Traded it for a BNIB Shield 9 plus $100.

I went the opposite route, had a 9mm Shield and put about the same number of rounds through it before I sold it (found it didn't do anything better than my CW9 and I shoot the CW better). I got back about what I paid for the Shield and have since picked up an XD-S. I really like it. Size wise, it's more a "Covert" being about as long as a CW/P 45, but about as tall as a PM45.
            Here's mine with my CW45:

The first ten rounds I put through it at ten yards (standing):

I find it's a nice alternative to my CW45 (which is not going anywhere) and it fits well in the FIST holster I have for my Glock 27.

            Greg

As mentioned the shield so much like the PM9 and really does nothing better or worse. I'm starting to get rid of pistols and rifles that cover the same needs. The Glock would probably go if I were to buy the XDs simply because the XDs is a 45 caliber. My only 45 caliber is a 1911. Nice shooting Greg.

I handled one and it was a nicely balanced gun. Personally I want a gun that holds a few more rounds per mag. Yes, I know I can pocket carry more mags but my pockets are now full of cellphones, knives, moneyclip, pen, whistle, keys, etc. Damn those EDC forums.

                  Greg,

How does the trigger and the recoil compare with the CW45? And, I know you are a gun lover who owns a lot of guns, but from a practical standpoint what does it add over the CW45?

                    John,
The XD-S trigger has a shorter stroke and reset. I run a NY1/Glock 3.5 connector setup in my G27 and I think the XD-S trigger is more comparable to that than the CW45's trigger.
IMO, the CW45 is the more manageable of the two in regards to recoil.
The XD-S is slightly thinner than the CW45 and shorter in height. I find this makes it a little easier to conceal and I can shift it to ride more comfortably without printing than the CW when worn IWB.
The shorter height does make it easier to pocket if you were so inclined.
Depending upon how you do it, I think the grip safety adds another layer of safety when re-holstering.
The ambi mag release on the XD-S is a nice (even if seldom used) feature. Likewise, the rail could make it handy as a camp gun with a light and extended magazine.
The XD-S makes me think a CW45 "Covert" would be a good thing (I'd probably like it better as it would use a single recoil spring).
                    Regards,
                    Greg

Thanks, Greg. I think the holster solution in this THREAD would work perfectly for making a CW45 disappear comfortably all day long. I like the way it uses a separate nylon belt so the belt and pants are undisturbed.
                      Very interesting...

                        GB ,

Have you had any issues with your striker / or any FTF's ? Over on XDTalk it seems there are issues.

I paid $602 OTD for an XDs , I was first on the list at my LGS. 2 weeks after it was released , and many stores (except mine go figure) having them and calling me -- I tried to get my money back but .. "No refund on special orders"

So I grabbed a new M&P9C , fitted it with an apex AEK and trijicon HD's . I saw a bitone XDs when I was picking up my CM9 and wow it's a beautiful gun , I'm just cautious on purchasing because of the issues being reported.

                          Rudy,
Mine does not like the bullet profile of Hornady 230gr. XTP and fails to return to battery with it. Everything else I've tried in it works and I've had no other issues with the gun.
There are a couple of things I don't like about it, but aren't deal breakers.
                          1. the LCI sticks up slightly into the sight picture. It doesn't obscure the fiber optic or affect the sight picture; I just didn't like, but it was easy to remedy.
                          2. The right rear frame rail is not captive of the slide rail when the slide is in battery as the disconnector cut on the slide eliminates the bottom of the slide rail aft of the disconnector. It hasn't affected anything and probably won't, but I think they could have made that frame rail extend farther forward or made the disconnector cut differently so that rail is captive at all points of the slide's travel.
                          Regards,
                          Greg

It's actually closer in size to the CW45 than the PM, except it's .4 inches shorter in the grip and holds one less round. I'm guessing that it would be a two finger grip for me, which I'm not crazy about. It's also heavier than the PM or CW - definitely not a pocket pistol.

I had a compact XD45 and didn't really care for it. I think I'll keep the CW45 and not worry about it. It seems that everyone's shooting at Kahr's lineup, but I still prefer the original.
