    And Hi, Jim. No, I haven't run into anyone from my enlisted years... '64 to '68. I was in training most of those 4 years, but after a few months in Japan at Yokota, we started a new squadron down in Okinawa... the 6990th Security Squadron... later a Group, and flew in RC135's off the coast near Haiphong, and had TDY's into Danang where we used the 6924th SS facilities and flew RC130's stationed "safely" at Cam Rahn Bay. I got over there three times and the middle TDY was for 70 days starting the day before the First Tet Offensive in January '68. I had just made SSGT and was there as project NCO. I sent my next replacement back. I was single and he was married and didn't want to be there. I had more "fun" in Danang and later Cam Rahn than on Okinawa.

      I was there part of the same time, but I was on a boat at Yankee Station. During Tet we spent most of our time defending Khe Sanh from the NVA. It was the only time during my two tours as a fighter pilot that I did any air-to-ground and I wasn't especially good at it. We did manage to hold them off though with a lot of help and I got an Air Medal out of it. In my two years over there, I only got to Danang once, and that was only for a few hours.

        I'd be happy with either.
        Just trying to talk myself out of having BOTH - LOL!

          I like autos... flatter and more easily reloaded... and a lot of them hold more than 5 rounds. The revolvers that hold more than 5, get larger and larger and heavier with the added rounds. And... unless you're a Jerry Miculek, it takes a bit of coordination and concentration to reload a revolver:

          Then there's my "Battle Pistol" the XD45 cannon with 13+1+13+13, and so forth. Of course, that's harder for CCW... but I did get an IWB Kydex holster made for it and I have magazine holders for 1 1/2" belts, as well as my 2" web belt... Just in case!

            Very familiar with the 90th, though at a later date than you. Interesting to note you were with the 6924th, as I was the 24th Ops Officer when it was re-established in 1980. Lots of time in far east, europe, mid-east, and some time in Pentagon in the 70s. Never went to Viet Nam with USAFSS, but was around earlier with EC-121s (College Eye/Big Eye) with the 552nd AEW&C Wing in '66. Always good to hear from others of our era.

              I carry and like both.
              My G27 is my "Battle Pistol" with a G22 mag and X-grip and three big sticks
              it's 15+1+22+22+22. And I too have belt mag packs.

              Although I'd truly likely grab my P220/45 7+1 and four 10 round extended mags. I have a quad mag pack for it.
              ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
              Actually I'd throw on my bullet proof vest and four or five handguns.
              I've concealed four and went out on the town.
                Isn't your P220 8 + 1 - mine is.
                My "Battle Pistol" would likely be my HK45c, 8 + 1, and a couple of extra mags.
                  My P220 is a classic two tone pre-stainless 1998 model.
                  It came NIB with two stainless 7 round mags.
                  I believe they were all 7+1 back then.
                  It will accept 8+1 mags, but some feel the same size 7 +1 may be more reliable?
                  I don't know if that's true.
                  But my three German made black oxide P220 Sport mags are 7 round as well.
                  I supplemented the 7 round mags with four Sig OEM stainless 10 round extended mags with sleeves.
                    Mine's even older. It's a 1995 build German nickel plated P220. I just checked and you're right - the two original mags are 7 rounds like the one in the picture. However, I do have two 8 round mags with a small bumper on the bottom like the ones in your second and third pictures.
                        I picked up a XDS 45 last week and was lucky enough to score an extended mag for it too. I'd never shot a 45 before, but read so much good about them that I wanted to try it out. Turns out that I really like it. Now all I have to do is get enough time to shoot it some more because it is very tight.
