  • My Latest Handgun Purchase

The other day, while looking over my local shop's inventory, I spied a very clean S&W Model 12.

The serial number places the date of manufacture during 1974. For a 38 year old revolver, it has been nicely taken care of. I have a fondness for older Smiths, and had been looking for a nice Model 12 for some time.

I take it the model 12 is not a J frame but the next frame size up--. Never can remember ever sellingone of those or seeing one. A good smith mellows with age but they never get OLD.
. My PM9 has over 34,000+ rounds through it, and runs much better than an illegal trying to get across our border

The S&W Model 12 is indeed a K-frame revolver, with an aluminum frame. The barrel, cylinder, and hard-use parts are all steel.

Rated for standard pressure .38 Special ammunition. Six shot cylinder, with a 2 inch barrel. These revolvers were manufactured by Smith & Wesson from 1953 until 1986. I bought my first one sometime around 1973, but as with most of the guns I got back then, it was either sold or traded away.

And nice gun, btw. I assume you purchased it. I'd really like to have one of these as well for when the 2 1/2 inch r&p model 19 weighs a bit heavy on the belt.

That's a beauty! If it is like the Model 10, it has a naturally light, smooth trigger.
              Very interesting...

                Nice find.

American Rifleman had a nice little piece this month on the Model 60. At the back I believe.
