  • Pocket Rocket - Sig P938

One of these followed me home yesterday. It's about the size of a PM9 and has a short, but still kind of heavy trigger.

    Here's Hickok45s review of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6Js4...eature=related

    Nice gun Melissa.
You'll have to give a follow-up Range Report.
    I've considered one myself.
But the Cocked and Locked thingy I've never warmed up to.

I'm guessing your not going to leave that trigger alone either right? LOL

I handled a Shield 9mm and PPS 9mm at the show yesterday.
But my Glock G27, with a Storm Lake 40-9mm and G26 mag, was in my pocket and not that much bigger?
10-1 of +P+ 127 Ranger Ts, with a crisp Ghost 3.5/NY1 trigger, 100% reliability and crazy bulls-eye accuracy.
I just walked away and got more ammo for my HK45C that I carried later that day.

I know 2 people who have P938's and they both rave about them!

Yes I know that everyone thinks their latest gun is always the cat's meow (whatever that means), but both of these are people that I trust and who don't normally exaggerate or brag.

I've had one on my wish list ever since they were announced, but there are so many other things I need to get (I'm kitting out 2 long guns that seem to require a lot of extra accessories and parts) that I really can't put the money into one of these now.

Unless perhaps someone puts me over the edge with more glowing reports...

Well, I shot it yesterday and had around 5 malfunctions in 75 rounds, but I was shooting my reloads so that isn't really a good test of a new gun. Plus, it's a little snappy so I might have limp wristed a couple. I plan to clean/oil it and shoot some factory fmj and SD rounds through it this week. It's not a really comfortable gun to shoot because of the checkering on the front and back strap and the trigger has ridges. A shooting glove would be great for breaking it in.

Barth, there's a post on the Sig forum that says to change the mainspring to bring the trigger down to around 4.5 lbs. I might try that.

Congrats on the new pistol Melissa. I look forward to reading about how it works out for you (both in terms of reliability and trigger pull thing).

Funny that Barth should mention the Shield. Melissa posted abut installing an Apex sear in her's and that gave me reason to reconsider the Shield (as my main gripes with it were the trigger and grip). I recently picked another Shield with the intention of trying the Apex sear (S&W's discount program was also an incentive). I'm happy to say that the sear has erased my gripe with the trigger: thanks Melissa! After a little work on the grip with the Dremel (and a few other tools), the Shield is now good to go for me and part of the carry rotation. Personally, I find the size differences between it and my G27 quite noticeable.
          Regards,

Mel, i had one and sold it... ended up getting another one and they are nice. Takes a good amount of ammo thru them before they run like a top but you know how that goes already!
Focus on your front sight..... The rest should be blurry!

You're welcome, Greg! I'm glad the Apex sear worked out for you. What didn't you like about the grip? I would have kept the Shield if I could have chopped off the grip and the barrel an inch or two. It was a great shooter...just to big for my intended purpose.

Did you have reliability problems with the 1st one?

I didn't care for how the grip and trigger guard interfaced: it felt crowded and too abrasive. I slightly undercut that area and smoothed it out:

My buddy picked one of those up a few weeks ago.

I have not had a chance to check it out though.

Very nice, Greg! I bet that feels a lot better.

never shot it, found someone with an ultra series 1911 and traded straight up with them. I've had a few fte with the one i have now, but can't seem to leave the cm9 at home. I agree with you about the shield... it's the same size as the cw just about!

                          JMHO re pocket carry

I have a Sig Pro 2009 (predecessor to the SP2022) and think it's great for a value gun. I would certainly trust my life to it and I've never had a malfunction of any kind and it is quite an accurate shooter. Sigs overall are great as we all know.

But I can't see getting this single action 1911-type gun that does not have a grip safety, yet want (or even be able) to carry it in pocket.

Moreover, there appear to be reliability problems with it (same with the Kahrs with their 200-round break-in period), and, frankly, the CW9 is the preferred way to go for I would imagine much less cost. Of course, I would've purchased a CM9 were they available at the time I purchased the CW9.

Perhaps I should've just purchased a PM9 but they were and are too pricey IMHO. Nevertheless, you can pocket-carry a CW9 in a DeSantis Nemesis in many front pant pockets, better yet, get a CM9 to pocket carry and forego the Sig 938 (if you can-here in The Golden State the CM9 is not on the approved list anyway-so one better look into the propriety of an in-person Private Party Transfer through a local FFL).

The Sig P938 has a manual safety like a 1911 so I'm not worried about it going off by accident. I can't carry it in my jeans pocket, but it will work in cargo pants. Most of the time I will be carrying it AIWB.

As for reliability, I've fired around 150 factory rounds now with only 1 jam. From what I've been reading on the Sig forum, there were problems with the early guns, but they have mostly gotten things straightened out now.

I really like the P938 and it conceals beautifully for me. Even so, it Glock ever makes a micro 9mm, the Sig could be sold.

Barth, I had my gunsmith change out the mainspring and the trigger pull is around 4 lbs now instead of 7-8 lbs.

Not to be contrary, but don't you find 4# a bit light for a defensive carry single action? That's headed into target territory weight for any sa with a clean break trigger.
