  • got a new to me Ruger Mark II...

until i can pony up the dough for some more .45acp ammo i found a mark II 6" pencil bbl for $199.00

i have this thing for .22 handguns you see, i often use the its for my daughter excuse to get one.

my daughter has her pink framed nickled slide Walther P22, she also has a Ruger LCR-22, both are plinker, paperpunching fun guns (locks are not conducive on defensive guns).

well i lke the "luger style" of this gun and look forward to lots of inexpensive shooting.

who else has one of these gems? pix are always welcome.

Great acquisition, Jerry, at an excellent price.

I like the MKII, as well. I've had one for nearly 30 years. If you take care of 'em, these will last a lifetime. You will be amazed how accurate this gun shoots.

Mine will eat anything. I almost always buy inexpensive bulk ammo. I suggest you buy, or make, one of these to save your thumbs when reloading. If you shoot it much, you'll want a few extra mags, too.

Taking down an MKII for cleaning, is a little bit tricky, the first time you do it. There are some very good YouTube videos that can help you with this.

    Enjoy!

Glad it helped. Some of those videos are way better at showing disassembly, than the Ruger manual.

I have always liked the 6" tapered barrel ones. I never liked the Luger, but to me it is reminiscent of the Walther P38.
          Very interesting...

            Jerry,
Congrats on the Mark II. I'm quite a fan of them and .22 handguns in general. I think the Mark II the best of the series, but they all are excellent guns (especially when you consider that the Japanese Nambu heavily influenced the design).

            JF,
I'm with you on the longer tapered barrels. I have Mark IIs and clones with 10", 6 7/8", and 4" bull barrels; I've also have Mark IIs with 4" and 6 7/8" tapered barrels. I enjoy them all, but prefer the the heavy taper 6 7/8" barrel guns (the exception being my Government Model with a bull barrel in the same length).

I have a stainless bull barrel 4" Mark II. I've shot it a lot! Great gun, very trouble free.

After #1 son graduated from single shots it was the first semi I let him shoot. The look on his face when he finally figured out we didn't have to load after each round is one I wish I had a picture of. Priceless.

I've had it probably 30 years or better and still looks new. I put a reflex sight on it and it's a keeper.

I've pulled it out to sell a few times but thankfully came to my senses before it was too late.

I dig 22's. Great fun, meaningful practice, win/win in my book. And still affordable to shoot.

I have a MkII 22/45 and it shoots like a champ. I have a MKIII long tapered barrel (luger looking style) and it shoots like a champ. My brother has a MKI and that thing shoots like a champ. Love them .22 Rugers. Mine have been so reliable and basically eat any and all ammo I have fed them. I use my MKII 22/45/ fro Steel Challenge. Next year, I may put a Red Dot on my MKIII and use it as well for Steel Challenge. However, the mag disconnect on the MKIII is a pain in the... for Steel Challenge, but tolerable.

I have a 50th anniversary model. 4 3/4" bbl, blue with a special roll mark on top. That pistol is so much fun. Had another, but it got gone. You'll keep that little guy for a long time.

Good catch. You will like the accuracy of that gun. I have the Mark III hunter with the fluted barrel and it is fun to shoot. We shoot at shotgun shells to 25 yards.
The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

Add me to the list of owners. I just picked up a Mark III Bull Barrel. I ordered a Mark II hammer bushing so that I can eliminate the magazine safety. Did a bit of polishing to smooth and lighten the trigger pull. Disassembly isn't all that bad, but reassembly can be a bear. I hear they improve with age.
