  • A .22lr day at the range.

I thought I'd treat myself to a range day. Not long ago I'd picked up a used HK MP5-22 that I wanted to test out. About a week ago I'd stumbled upon a gun store I'd never been to and discovered a second mag for the Hk there. I'd unsuccessfully looked all over the internet for a mag. My lucky day

The crappy little reflex sight was off, so I removed it and used the iron sights. The gun was right on and very accurate. I shot a bunch of different brands and they all worked. I had a total of 3 mis-fires... all with a good indent. Some of the ammo came with the gun so maybe it was old.

This gun was a blast. The mags are easy to load, hold 25 rounds which seem to just disappear. The trigger is OK, nothing great, nothing bad. It's been a few years since I've fired a real MP5, but this, as far as I remember, is as close to the real thing as a .22 could come. I like!

I also took along three pistols to blow holes in some Shoot-N-See targets I'd taken a disliking toward. My favorite .22 plinker is my Daewoo DP52.

This Walther PP clone is a delight. The sights are easy to see, the trigger is supurb and this gun shoots anything. I love it and wish I could find another.

That gun shop I'd found also yielded two spare magazines for the Bersa Thunder 22 I own. These are typically hard to find as well. The little gun shop had few guns, but a good supply of other good stuff. The Bersa is an OK gun, it works pretty well, has no huge flaws, good controls and a fair trigger. Lots of fun in a reasonably cheap package.

I also had my new, summer vacation purchase, GSG 1911-22. This gun has proved to be a delight in every way, but cheap mags. It is quite accurate, has a nice trigger, and eats most ammo. It's supposed to be fed HV ammo and so far has not faltered once. A few bucks more than the Bersa but worth it. This just might become my favorite. Look-out Daewoo.

Thought I had a photo of the GSG, but can't find one of my gun, so I borrowed one. Looks the same.

It's a good day when the range fee is several times what the ammo cost. I like that. Sometimes you just can't beat a .22 for fun.

Judging by today's left wing, looks like Senator Joe McCarthy was right after all.

I may go to the range tomorrow to exercise my .22s. I've neglected them for too long.

Very nice. 22's are alot of fun. I never go to the range without taking at least one. My Ruger 22/45 never leaves my gun bag except for cleaning and shooting.
To be sure of hitting the target, shoot first and call whatever you hit the target.
