  • 10/22 barrel with internal silencer?

I saw a barrel at my lgs for 700+ dollars. It was for a 10/22 and it had a built in silencer. Wouldn't you have to have a special stamp to purchase it? I'd like to get one of those new break down models. They look nice!

Depends also on local laws, here in Minnesota we can't even get federal stamp. Our state knows what is best for us.

I don't think there is anywhere in the U.S. you can have a suppressor without a tax stamp.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suppressor
"In the United States, taxes and strict regulations affect the manufacture and sale of suppressors under the National Firearms Act.
They are legal for individuals to possess and use for lawful purposes in thirty-nine of the fifty states.[26]
However, a prospective user must go through an application process administered by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF),
which requires a Federal tax payment of USD $200 and a thorough criminal background check.
The USD 200.00 buys a revenue stamp, which is the legal document allowing possession of a suppressor.

If your state allows it, you'd still have to get the federal stamp for it.

Not sure if a barrel like that would fit the 10/22 take down model. It's the same mount at the receiver most likely, but past that, the twist on design probably would not let you do that. The barrel on the take down model is a two piece design...one piece is the part that has the mount into the receiver, the other part is the twist on full barrel that mates to part that mounts to the receiver.

The silenced barrel would require you to take that take down receiver adapter thing off and then mount it.

Even if you did that, an integrally silenced barrel is probably a 'bull barrel' sized barrel and might require a different stock to fit (i.e. the standard ruger stock might not accommodate it. Maybe even more so the case w/ the take down stock. It's made to accommodate the take down 2 piece barrel.

Got a brand name on that barrel? I googled up this one...

And yes, a suppressor requires the tax stamp. Period!
          Cut & Pasted:

Brand new for 2012, and based on our popular Operative C, the Operative TD is a complete integrally-suppressed Ruger 10/22 Take-Down Rifle with no equal. We start with factory-new Ruger 10/22 Take-Down Rifles, and integrally suppress the barrel, the result being one of the most quiet, versatile, compact, and light integrally suppressed rifles on the market. Each rifle is then extensively test fired before it leaves our shop to ensure accuracy and reliability. As with all of our integral suppressors, the monocore baffle stack can be quickly and easily removed for cleaning by the end user.

Thanks, I'll check them too. I have been surpressing the urge to buy a supressed rimfire for a while. I like the "no can" look of these type barrels.
The looking for one is fun...

This and a sturdy pop bottle... along with a little foam for a better seal... and sub-sonic ammo... Voilà! Pretty quiet patch catcher!

While I like the integral look I would prefer a can that can be moved from firearm to firearm.
