  • TSG-22 Conversion Kit for Glock 19/23

The kit just arrived about half an hour ago and I've unboxed it and taken initial pictures of the kit and the extra magazines, with comparisons.

I ordered it on April 3 and got it today on the 8th. Saturday and Sunday made for a delay on delivery by UPS... pretty fast, though.

I like the plastic case and it took just a few seconds to figure out that the two tabs next to the locking holes slide outwards for opening... nice.

I haven't read anything, yet, but I'll have to see what the included thread locker and small Allen wrench are for.

First just the pictures then a comparison of the magazines and fit within the Glocks with the slides locked back.

I'll start with the invoice for those who want to know. The un-threaded version is $369.90. The Advanced aluminum slide version was $275 but not available most places, especially at that price, so I went for the "mostest"... threaded barrel and longer barrel!

Lots more pictures... starting with the slide. The slide was in a plastic(?) sleeve and heavily oiled... yellowy stuff. I had to go get several paper towels and clean some off before handling the slide.

Magazines... the lengths are the same for the 10-round and the 15-round mags. Unless you're worried about exceeding any high-capacity limits, just get the 15-rounders. They both stick out the bottom of the G19 with the slide locked back. I tried the G22 Gen 4 with the same results. The model I got is just for the compact 19-23 models, so I won't be able to test insertion in the G22 with the kit in place. I don't know how that will look with the G23, yet. It's loaded and in "use".

I'll post the pictures and then edit to add commentary or explanations. I aligned the Glock mags and the TSG-22 mags on a small level to show the differences in length and fit of the bases. The G22 mag is to the left, then the TSG-22 15 and 10 rounders, then the G19 to the right. Its base wasn't the same as the G22 mag, so it wasn't parallel to the others when I put its base against the level.

I think that the magazines are one-size-fits-all and would go with the 15-rounders. They probably fit all versions of the kits. They may fit higher with the kit installed. As I said, I haven't read anything, yet. i just wanted to get this much out for you to see.

I envision installing this in my G23C so that we can take the .22 kitted pistol as well as "Wifey's" G19 to the range. The weights and feel should be similar.

I did install the Ghost 3.5-poundTrigger Connector and polished the trigger parts and the slide block during the installation, using my Dremel-Like Tool (DLT) with a small buffer wheel and Flitz, aster watching a few YouTube videos. I also polished the safety block and found a rough surface defect on the bearing surface that I stoned and buffed/polished. There was a lot of crud in the safety block hole, too, as well as the extractor well. The slide strip down was certainly worthwhile with only one minor glitch. As I re-assembled the slide, I didn't find any spring or rear pin... and I was SURE that nothing had gotten away from me... and maybe the striker spring helped with that?? I installed the assembled slide and the extractor fell out. I looked at the parts schematic on my computer... and, of course, there were missing parts... the spring and rear nylon pin. I went back to the dining room and that was the first thing I saw... the missing spring and nylon pin still in it. I installed those and tested with my plastic rod for striker function... nearly embedding the rod in the ceiling!

The Ghost 3.5 pound connector and the polishing made the trigger really light... scary! I'll leave the G19 un-altered until Wifey gets "familiar" with it. I can't wait to try out the trigger and the .22 kit! Another day, though, it would take too long to get ready to go to the range and I don't want to rush using this kit... or the trigger improvement!

I took pictures of the manual or user's guide for answers to most questions. The last page has recommended ammo. I'll have to test what I have because I ain't gonna be buying any more for a while!

The bulk of my range ammo is the Federal VP525 with 36-gr bullets and 1260 fps. I hope that will work. I have the CCI 40-gr Sub-sonic Segmented and the Remington 36-gr Sub-sonic, both at 1050 fps and the 32-gr Stingers at 1640 fps.

Okay... I did a little in-house testing today... literally. My closest neighbor is a cop in a trailer pretty close to my back porch. So I wanted to keep things quiet but fire off a few rounds in the house to test the .22 conversion kit.

I have a 3/4" 3'x6" poplar board that I've used in the past for some tests. The Aguila Colibrí powderless 20-grain bullet ammo works pretty well, but it is strictly one-round-at-a-time in semi-autos. I put that board in front of a "stack" of Cabela's Hard Backed Catalogs that I've been saving for such use. The board was intended to rough up the bullets and cut penetration... which it did. The bullets did not go even halfway into the first catalog. This "target" or backstop was on our brick fireplace... for a FINAL backstop... which proved, thankfully, unnecessary.

I wanted to try several types of my ammo stock... my Federal Value pack 525 "Walmart-type" ammo and my several brands of sub-sonic ammo.

First the Federal... like you would get at Walmart. I got mine from Cabela's where they had a deal for 4 boxes in one of their plastic ammo cans for about $80 delivered last year. Then several types of Sub-Sonic ammo. The first was CCI Sub-Sonic Segmented HP. Then there's the Remington Sub-Sonic 100-packs. I got a really good deal at Natchez for those early last year. Pictures below.

I'll check Ballistics by the Inch and see what they have for a comparable barrel as my threaded TSG-22's ~4.3" threaded barrel. Of course, they don't list the ammo I used, so I'll have to guesstimate which is closest to at least one of my test ammos. They have several in the area, so for my purposes the three I tried today are sub-sonic coming out of the 4.3" or so barrel on the TSG-22... with the sub-sonic ones even slower.

I tried the Federal first and had trouble chambering a round. After 2-3 tries, I got the last of three rounds that I put in a magazine chambered and fired it... through a Perrier bottle trying to quieten it a bit. It was quite loud and I didn't try any more of that... being that it blew out the end of the bottle and sprayed plastic bits all over the "living room"... actually the family room and more properly our TV room. I kind of mangled a couple of the bullets, but the third one chambered and fired... rather loudly... so much for pop-bottle "silencers".

I tried another Perrier bottle and loaded two rounds of CCI Sub-Sonic Segmented Hollow Points. Both fired noisily and without problem, without destroying the bottle. I then tried two rounds of Remington Sub-Sonic HP which also fired without any problems, though noisy, too, and starting to tear up the bottle after the total of four shots.

The CCI will probably wind up as my range ammo... unless the Federal works better after breaking in the TSG-22. I want to reserve the Remington for real-world use in case the SHTF. I know that it works well in my 10/22 and the MKIII 22/45.

I have lots of pictures... the ammo and boxes/info... and the expanded bullets, though I was really just wanting to fire the pistol and see how the ammo worked with it... cycling and so on.

Okay, some more pictures. One round of the Federal blew out the bottom of the bottle and was noisy... shockingly so!

Bottle #2 lasted a little longer, but put to rest the pop-bottle silencer myth for me... ear protection required! Two shots of CCI okay, but noisy. Two more shots with the Remington and the bottom of the bottle was disintegrating and noisier.

Ammo recovered: The fifth picture is the first Federal round.

Well, I got some idea of what to expect from what I have on hand with the conversion kit. Unless the kit loosens up after break in, I'll be favoring the Remington for primary use and the CCI for range use.

I need to get my taxes done, and can't really go to the range until I get past those. Procrastination and laziness suck... but that's me!

I guess that I may have destroyed the collectible value of Cabela's First Hard Cover Catalog... but I have 2 or 3 other HC catalogs, I think! They make nice target backstops!

I've got a TacSol .22 conversion for 1911, which I put on a dedicated receiver. Very accurate... much better then the Ceiner/Kimber type. Much much better than the ACE type. About as good, perhaps a tad inferior to the old Kart conversion, but not much behind. That could be my individual unit, and the TS's are not made for bullseye, as the Kart was (and fit VERY tightly - needed to be hand fit to one frame and one frame only).

As for the Pepsi bottle silencer - could be they changed the plastic? I had a bolt on adapter for bottle threads back in the 80's, that fit the front of my Ruger Mark II 5-1/2 inch bull barrel. Not as quiet as you'd think, but remember - you gotta use SUB-Sonic ammo with it. And, the pop bottle silencer is only good for one shot, after that you're back to loud.

I don't know why the Federal didn't want to feed, but the two sub-sonic loads feed okay for the two per magazine that I tried for a function test. Quiet they weren't, though. I thought the Federal would be subsonic, and it probably was, but it was still more powerful and the noisiest.

Wow, Wynn, what a superb report! How have I missed this thread until now? I think it is because at least once a day all threads get marked as read when I'm not online. I wish they'd stop doing that.

If I ever get through with my taxes, I'll get to the range and test a few things I have lined up. I can't wait to see how my G23C trigger job affects my shooting. The trigger is scary now and I need to get used to it! I polished the rest of the trigger stuff while I was playing with my DLT and the Flitz. I'll take my new pistol/rifle rest and try to get some small groups... for a change!

Go get them taxes done! Finished my first draft yesterday and completed this morning. Will be sending off today with the 1300 mail.

Good report so far. I'm using an Advantage Arms target conversion kit for my 1911 and it works very well. It is somewhat picky on ammo though. Really likes the Remington Golden Bullets and the CCI mini mags. So so with other brands. Doesn't care for the Auto match at all.
