I have more money than sense and I still wouldn't touch it.

Now, if you could come up with an adapter that would turn one of my Marlin or Winchester lever actions into a back-up shotgun.........

"made from chromoly steel." Not aluminum...

YOU may not like the idea and that is perfectly fine but to dimiss it out right seems rather silly to me. A 7" barrel wont get the most velocity out of a 223 round or any rifle round for that matter but I aint heard the guys who have 7" AR or AK pistols complain about their performance... tho I would prefer 15 inch barrel inserts myself.

Put several different firearms and some ammo for each in your backpack and then grab some steel bars 7" long stick them in a backpack and weigh the backpacks to see which is heavier and thus would be harder to carry around in a survival situation.

Accuracy.. funny thing how slug hunters have had no real issue using plain ole bead sights on their shotguns out to 100 yards on deer sized game for decades.

          I referred to the Briley:

          http://www.briley.com/companiondrop-intubesets.aspx

          Companion Drop-In Tube Sets

Companions are universal aluminum tubes that are designed to shoot in a variety of makes/models of barrels. These are designed to self-adjust to the barrel as you tap them in. They are shipped directly to you and do not require you to send in your gun. Tubes are available in 3 gauges and 2 styles, Standard and Ultralight, and come with 2 flush chokes.

Companion Drop-In .410 Bore Tube Set, Standard Weight

          Your Price: $549.00

          and

Companion Drop-In .410 Bore Tube Set, UltraLite

          Your Price: $649.00

I would rather fill my backpack with more ammo than a bunch of extra weight more useful for signalling, but I didn't buy any stock in the "adapters".

One major difference in an AR pistol or the like, is you can quickly fire 30 rounds from the gun. You sacrifice a bit of accuracy and velocity, but you can still throw a ton of lead at the target. Switching to a single shot drop in, that also loses your accuracy and velocity makes for a weaker argument.

As for slugs, they use all 20 some inches of barrel before shooting the deer at 100 yards. Cut a barrel to 7 inches, and try to hit a target at 100 yards using a bead and it becomes a bit tougher.

Another disadvantage to using a single shot shotgun with the drop ins for all your different ammos is if that gun breaks....you have no gun. Using multiple fire arms, while heavier, etc, means if one gets broken, stolen, etc, you're not just out.

If you only have one firearm I would agree. This seems to me to be more like a firearm you carry in addition to your normal sidearm or rifle. Guess it is just me that sees this as a valid idea for a survival situation. Honestly I would prefer a TC Contender and several barrels.

The length of the barrel doesn't effect accuracy as much as some seem to believe. Else it would be near impossible to hit 8" ballons at 100 yards + with a snub nosed 38 even semi regularly.

You don't limit your rifle to the iron sights why would you limit your shotgun to a bead sight? Mine currently has a rifle sighted barrel on it. I have a dot sight on one revolver as well.

Ok, nice gadget I admit. Still don't see as a serious survivalist tool. Minimalist zombie apocalypse fare is a Glock in 9mm, something sturdy semi-auto in .223 or 7.62x39, 870 or eqiv, and a good .22.

For me that equates to Glock, SKS, and 870....specific 'cause all just work after hosing off the mud... plus battered old 10-22 and Ruger SS Six.
