S&W model 60 j-frame with banana grips shooting .38 special standard pressure or Hornady Critical defense. I have a no dash model that shoots great considering the 1 7/8 inch barrel. Banana grips help considerably with felt recoil. Model 65 is the most accurate wheel gun I own, but I need the 4" barrel to shoot .357 mag comfortably.

I have small hands and the SP101 Ruger factory grips fit better than any other revolver I have. I shoot my S&W K frame just as well, even though the grips don't "feel right".

My wife has several options but always carries her LCR 38. She has no problems with the recoil and likes the trigger. I really like the trigger also. I put a big dot front sight on it.

She may want to check the LCR out in .22 mag. I haven't shot one yet but I want to soon.

S&W 360. I will take +p if desired,13.4 ounces and gunbroker has some in the $400 range. As far as the trigger pull my m&p 340 is smooth & lighter with some use now.

Hi. The 640 Centennial is a great wheel gun. I had one for many years. It will take the +P ammo, but its punishing on the hands unless good hogue grips are installed. The air weight is nice but lighter weight comes at a price in terms of +P ammo. Recoil is somewhat rough and recovery is much tougher . My mother in law, yes you read that right, who lives in OK keeps a 640, in her night stand at home. She keeps 125 gr. PMC starfire ammo in it and is quite happy with it.

I have a LCR 357 and I love it, but it's not for everyone. I imagine the LCR 38 would be fine as well.
And I agree that a trigger job would be nice. I haven't had mine done yet but I will at some point.
I don't purse carry, I'm just not comfortable not having the gun on my person.
I carry the LCR in a coat pocket or in a flash bang holster.

I think hornady makes a light recoil self defense 38 round, which might also be an option.
