  • New Power Custom Trigger Kit for my Ruger 10/22 Carbine

I finished mounting the AR/22 Rimfire Riflescope on my Walmart model of the Ruger 10/22 All-Weather Carbine. I chose the "New Wider View See-Thru Kwik-Site" Mounts, Model KS-RU22. I got the black version because most of my rifle and the scope are black.

I used 4-5 levels to try to get everything vertically aligned, especially the reticule crosshairs. I guess they'll do for .22 rimfire out to 125 yards or so. I tried going slowly and adjusting, readjusting and so on, to get the mounts on evenly and then the scope rings of the mount.

I did put some removable thread sealant on the mount and ring screws... all Allen wrench types.

I already had my target backstop in place and I wasn't too worried about shooting Colibrí and Super Colibrí in the house. It's quiet coming out of the rifle... the loudest noise from the impact. Some of the bullets bounce when they hit previous ones, so there was a little hazard there. I was shooting from about 30 feet and some rolled that far back. There was also primer residue for the first 10 feet or so from the muzzle. I was a little surprised about that and vacuumed it up often before I tracked it all over the house.

The 3/4" poplar board had a few holes through it from high velocity rounds in another session and repeated hits in that area succeeded in breaking through and throwing splinters all over the place. I waited until Wifey left the house to go job hunting... and or shopping.

    Some pix.

Primer debris and more pix. The floor tiles are white with faint marbling... no particles.

I shot about a box of Colibrí (375 fps). Here are the last two 5-shot groups using Aguila Super Colibrí(500 to 590 fps, depending on where you look). I'll have to wait to see what High-Velocity ammo does. I must have a dozen kinds plus about a dozen Sub-Sonic(950, 1025, 1050, 1070 fps) and a few Hyper-Velocity types as well from 1475 to 1700+ fps... Stingers at 1640 fps.

Plus a few more pix of the scope. Sighted in at 50 yards using HV .22's and using the 7x power, the dots on the reticule give you holdovers for 75, 100, and 125 yards. There is a parallax correction on the left side that also works with the highest power 7x. The Turrets are removable with an Allen wrench to put back on to set to zero the adjustments after sighting in the scope.

It may be some time until I can get to a range to shoot at 50 yards or more. The range I where I'm a member only has a 15-yard indoor range.

I got one of my old black 10-round 10/22 magazines and modified it a bit to use with the Colibrí powderless bullets. Those things have short bullets and don't feed well, let alone cycle in semi-autos. I used a small round diamond file to make a ramp in the front part of the magazine. I used fine sandpaper and then a little Tetra oil in that area. I was able to get up to 10 rounds in the mag well to the rear and cycle them with the bolt. I had a few problems with extractions... annoying that I may have fixed something that wasn't broke... adding the Volquartsen extractor.

Anyhow, I was pretty careful and only tried once to fire a round with the LASER boresighter in place! I think that the safety was on or I hadn't loaded a round, yet, or both!

I hope to at least get to the range next week and see how the scope works. I have the 22/45 Lite to try as well. I have that compensator and the +1 Magazine Bumpers from TandemKross to try out... the ones Ljutic spoke about.

I'll do a .22 rimfire day Tuesday or Wednesday... range closed on Monday.

I forgot the price... I don't know what the MRSP is, but I paid $123.99 for the scope and $21.19 for the mount from Optics Planet with free shipping. I ordered it through Amazon hoping that would keep OP consumer friendly, but though it supposedly shipped the day after I ordered it, it did not ship until TWO WEEKS LATER... AFTER I queried them through Amazon on my order's whereabouts! This is two out of three less than timely orders from OP. I canceled the second one... but tried them a third time!

OK so how do you like the scope?

I have an older Bushnell 3-9x 32 adjustable objective scope that I like pretty well. Fact is I got three of them and wish I had gotten a couple more.

I like it, but it's pretty large. I usually buy the lowest power full-sized variable scope just to have a better sight than the iron ones. I used those for pellet rifles, too.

I think this will be a great scope in combination with the see-through mount. I look forward to getting it set up for 50 yards, but that's not easy around here. I might have to look into going to the Gateway Range just west of Jacksonville... clear on the other side of town over 25 miles away... through town.

I don't hunt or varmint hunt... would like to, though... but I want the capability of an all-around rimfire "tool" for pests or procuring food... as quietly as possible. Using sub-sonic ammo can help keep the sound from carrying so far. I'll have to shoot all kinds of ammo to see what works for me. The compensating features of the scope only work with the highest power, supposedly. I'll have to see what happens with the lowest setting... 2x. It's the LARGEST and heaviest scope I've ever owned. I had a Leopold 2x7 on my Remington 788 6mm and used something like 1.5x5 or something like that on my Mini-14 and Mini-30. I have none of those now... no need.

The 10/22 was a "prepper" purchase for a possible need, as is my Glock 21-based companion pistol and carbine setup.

I went to the range a few days ago and fired my 22/45 Lite and the Ruger 10/22. I like the trigger improvement on the MkIII 22/45 Lite and want the same for my stiff 10/22 trigger. I ordered the Power Custom Trigger Kit from Midway while they had $20 off $100 or more on regular-priced stuff. I like discounts!

It arrived yesterday... very fast! I just installed it this afternoon and love it.

This video helped a lot, but there are probably better ones out there.

                http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4m8K079SuA

I had to back up and freeze frame to get the proper orientation of parts several times, but I finally got the 10/22 back together and it seems to work.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Just a TINY bit of take up and then a light let off... much like the improvement on the 22/45 with the Majestic 3.2 Kit.

I used a 1/16" bit instead of the Allen wrench for easy adjustment of the trigger travel screw. I also used a "blue" grade of thread sealant to keep the too-easily-moved screw in place. I think that RED might be a problem as the bond is stronger than the plastic!

I did lightly stone the part that engages the safety and made sure that was smooth... not sure if that was necessary, though. I did the safety check and had no sear releases... firing pin released... on or off safety.

I didn't use the included polymer buffer/pin as I already had the "Red Polymer" one installed.

I'll include the MidwayUSA bill for cost and shipping. I made THREE orders from them that day! I re-ordered the Linear Compensator because I "LOST" the first one... putting it down somewhere... got tired of looking for it! It's supposed to throw the blast forward and reduce the noise heard by the shooter... sounds like a good idea to me, though I don't know when I'll be firing outdoors to test that, either.

Your order # placed on 09/03/2013 is being shipped(same day!) via UPS(a Hybrid-UPS/USPS Mail, actually). I got it Saturday, the 7th!

I went to the range yesterday with the 10/22 to test the Power Custom Trigger Kit and the Linear Compensator. It certainly met expectations... wherever the crosshairs were when the trigger was pulled... or yanked... that's where the bullet hit. Most of the time I had a slightly swinging target and didn't mind misses because I could see that they went where the crosshairs were at that instant. What more can you ask of the equipment?

I had a dumb thing happen... left my rifle lying on the front rest with the stock balanced on a Federal VP525 box... went out of the station for something... heard a crash... rifle was on the floor! There's a thin but worn carpet... slightly better than bare concrete!

I looked it over and went on with testing the just installed linear compensator. I started shooting at 10 yards and was missing way to the left of the letter-sized target! Then I tried the iron sights... same results. I loosened and re-tightened the threaded adapter's Allen screw... a bit tighter this time... back on target... no problems! Whew! The only damage I noticed... so far... was I found the little almost dime-sized plastic disc/emblem that covers the parallax turret's mounting screw... a drop of glue fix.

I'm quite happy with the 10/22 at this point and just need a trip to a rifle range with 50 and 100-yard ranges... and a good benchrest... mine's been pretty wobbly... not enough table... none, for that matter! The scope has a lot of terrific features and I would like to sight it in for 50-yards so the reticule dots for holdover at 75, 100, and 125 yards work... not that I anticipate needing those features.

The crosshairs were an inch or two high at 15 yards, but using the bottom to the thick part of the top vertical reticule put hits on target. The scope is at least 2" above the bore axis, so parallax changes impact point more drastically with shorter ranges.

I watched the videos that I took and there were no flashes to show... just minor hard-to-see wisps of smoke. The Linear Compensator is supposed to throw more of the noise forward away from the shooter and that seems to work. I took my ear muffs off for some of the shooting... no one else firing at the time. I still had earplugs though... deep in my ear canals... had to "dig" one out with my jeweler's screwdriver!

The target with 4 across by 5 rows down little circles with dots inside were fun for fast shooting. I popped off a 25-round mag shooting those offhand at 10 yards several times. I could see the bullet hit where the crosshairs were when I pulled the trigger. I usually hit the circles, but got the center dot quite a few times... swinging target or swinging barrel!

First target and last shown. Most shots with Federal 38-gr HP VP525 and the last was with Stingers.

This is a good product... from Tacticool22. It fits snugly... if you tighten it enough. I was trying not to mar the finish.

A few more pictures. I show a sequence of 3 frames with the Stingers being fired. The "flash"... more a slight puff of smoke is within the second frame. And there's a blurry picture of the small circles at 10 yards... swinging and magnified, but you can get the idea. I was shooting quickly and watching impact and crosshair placement.

I just took a picture and replaced the blurry one with small targets... swinging a bit.

Very nice! I need to get a trigger upgrade in my daughters MRI 22. The triggers in them are intentionally left stock so the end user can install whatever suites their tastes. I will have to look at the Power Custom Kit. Not too bad a price for what you get.

I'm certainly happy with it. The stock trigger was terrible... as were several other stock features of the 10/22... mag release, bolt "NON" auto release, and "buffer" pin. Except for the stock iron sights, I think that all is good now.
