  • G19 question that I gotta ask....

Ok so I was complaining to my wife the other day that I really wanted a beater gun to keep on the tractor, kayak etc. Well I happened to be at the LGS as they were receiving a shipment of Gen 2 G19s. I ended up digging through about 15 of them and found one I was happy with. Walked out the door with it for $248 including tax.

After getting it home and cleaning it up I realized it has the piece of trash NY compliant law enforcement trigger with crisp 8.5# pull so that just isn't going to fly with me. Now here is where it gets interesting, I called Glock and they said send the gun back and they would strip, clean and replace anything that was outside of spec for free and send it back with a certified letter stating in was within tolerance. They also said for 60 bucks they would strip and recoat the slide and put a new barrel in and for an additional $57 they would put new factory night sights on it.

My question is am I being ridiculous about this I could just keep it use it as a beater gun like I wanted and for $20 replace the trigger bar and spring or would you drop the extra $117 in it and have a completely refreshed Glock 19 for a total of $357 in the gun?

Here are a few pics of it right after I got home with it.

    If it ain'
tbroke don't fix it.If u sendit to glock you are gonna be out some nice up front bucks just to ship it to them. I think the price and everything thgat they offered u is excellent, u willg et a new gun out of it.

If it was mine I would not even fokkwith the trigger change, I can live with tht poundage YMMV U said it,,,, a beater gun,,,why beautify it and then it won't be a beater gun. More than likely is shows holster wear certainly IMO not sooting wear, as the NYPD has a full time glock armorer on staff,so no doubt in my mind the internals are perfect.. why not give it a 100 round sto se ehow bador how good you mighgt like or dislike the trigger.
. My PM9 has over 34,000+ rounds through it, and runs much better than an illegal trying to get across our border

Only you can answer that one. I like my firearms to look nice, but it IS a Glock so that will never happen. (They are borne Ugly) If a beater is what you want, get the trigger job and spend the savings on ammo!

G19 question that I gotta ask....

My night sights where $100 so that parts pretty good. But it only takes 5 minutes to change out the trigger connector. So I would probably go the cheap route

I would swap out the NY1 for a std 5.5 lb trigger spring, clean it up inside and out, install a new recoil assembly, and call it a day. Plenty good enough for your stated purpose.

G19 question that I gotta ask....

If you want to replace the trigger group and connector to factory Glock 5.5 lb specs it only takes about 2 minutes and you can use a bic pen for a takedown tool. Also, if you want that gun restored those are good prices and Glock customer service is great. If it were me and it was just a beater I would change out the trigger, shoot a few boxes of ammo through it and then see if you want any work done. Either way you can't go wrong.

I kind of agree with all of you I just needed someone to help push me that way lol. I think I will leave it as is for right now since it really isn't in bad shape it's just not perfect. I really did plan on using it when out on the tractor or 4 wheeler as it always seems like I have a coyote come running in front of me at some inopportune time when I am in the woods.

I guess I am eccentric about my guns and it bugs me to know there is one sitting there that isn't perfect however if it's perfect it probably won't be out in a rain storm with me when I need it lol.

I didn't think the price on this one was bad for the condition and it still seems to be in excellent working order. All the internals seem to be in great shape and the only real issue is some slight spotting on the slide and some very slight rust around the sights

That was a great price for the purchase. I would try someone's Glock with the standard 5.5 trigger before swapping as I carry a 23 with the 5.5 as my issue weapon and like the feel of the 8 pounder better. However i grew up shooting revolvers so 8 pounds is not awkward to me. Stick with factory magazines.

It sounds like the best part of the deal was the great price you got on the gun. Spending money on it seems counter productive IMNSHO.

But it's your choice of course. Can't go wrong from here.

P.S. At that price you probably could've even talked me into one....until you posted the pictures. Yuck!

Ditto to the other comments. I think I'd probably PREFER a Glock beater/car/boat gun to have the 8+ lb trigger actually. But either way, agreed, get the trigger and do it yourself, or get it done locally, and skip the trip back to momma.

FYI most places it cost 85 to 120 dollars to ship a handgun, overnight the only way fedex and ups will ship. Post office will not ship handguns so one needs to add this in to shipping both ways in most cases..

You don't have to use the fastest rate... just overnight. There are about 3 rates from the next morning, midday, and afternoon. The cheapest was about $60+. The businesses get much better rates... maybe half what we pay.

If you have to ship, find an FFL that'll do it for you. and cozy up to them. They can ship USPS, 5.99 for the box that'll hold pretty much any handgun. Add insurance, signing for a few bucks, you are less than $15 for shipping and slide them a $20, most will do it. Going back to the manufacturer or to a gunsmith doesn't require them to do any paperwork, but their FFL lets them ship USPS.
