Thanks, and I picked up the Vaquero on Tuesday morning.

Fit and finish are really quite good. There is some very slight variation in cylinder carry, but there always is on a Ruger. Every one I've ever owned has had one or more chamber click in very slightly after the trigger drops into the full cock notch. Don't recall on the previous .44's and .357s and the .41 I had, but on this Vaquero we're "out of perfection" by maybe 1/32 inch of hammer pull... ever ever so slight.

Nice to see they proof fired all six chambers. Nice to see the crescent ejector, steel ejector housing.

New Vaquero's also have an added ball detent and retractable pawl. Blackhawks and first model Vaqueros have a constat pawl engagement, which means while loading the chamber is never lined up with the gate unless you hold the cylinder against rotational tension by the pawl. New Vaqueros have a pawl that retracts, and a spring that pushes a little detent ball against the cylinders "star". The position of the ball is such that the chambers line up perfectly with the loading gate, and you don't have to finagle cylinder position.

The trigger is a bit long and creepy, but smooth as inside of your girlfriends thighs, and breaks right at 3lbs. The weight of pull is just about perfect for such a heavy revolver. Its about the same overall size as my Taurus Judge, and fits "ok" in the Taurus' holster.

Ruger did a great job polishing the revolver, but you can see at least four grades of stainless were used because they all polish up just a little bit differently. The grip frame is one, barrel and cylinder another, the hammer yet another, and finally the ejector housing is another type.

Grips were not black hard rubber, but instead a nice faux rosewood laminate that were fitted ok, but not perfectly. Bawanna will be getting an order.

Best feature for last: Ruger finally did away with the stupid "lawyer imposed" lock on the Vaquero. Looked inside the grip frame - no lock. Manual does not mention a lock, nor show it in the picture. Dunno when they retrograded to "the way it ought to be", but I for one am damned glad they did, mostly because it saves me from having to fabricate a new hammer strut guide / mainspring stop thingie.

Dunno if I'll have a chance to ride out to Sebring to get some 45 LC ammo on the cheap, but the idea is to shoot cast lead and blackpowder, and glue sticks and primers-only. Yes, glue sticks come in .450 diameter and hand press very nicely into fired 45 LC cases. Primers push em out with enough force to go through more than a few layers of cardboard. I'll get a big box and put my girlfriends pillow from the bed in the box to act as a backstop. She'll never notice.....

Too late for pictures tonite, but I'll get some out Friday for y'all.
