No mention of its weight, that's the whole point of polymer and they missed it.

I'd consider it if it was well balanced and significantly lighter than a steel version, and didn't have the fugly rail.

Can't imagine a 1911 in poly, though as stated many times before I like to feel the weight for counterbalance and simple don't shoot ploys as well.

The price is the other "whole point." Plastic is allegedly way cheaper to make.

And of course the reliability must be proven.

When Browning invented the 1911 flashlights and lasers hadn't been invented yet, so there was no need for a rail. Browning being ahead of his time allowed room for one, so it's only natural for his guns to have them today. Being that the rail is made from polymer it would be very easy to remove with a dremel, giving Bawanna something to do in his spare time. John M. thought of everything. As to the price this gun would retail for at least $850 if it was made totally from steel.

Dunno about the price, EAA's steel Witness line is half that price.

              No thanks.
If I wanted a lightweight 1911 I'd find a LW Colt Commander or better yet, an Ed Brown LW Kobra Carry.

I thought Wilson combat made a plastic frame 1911?

Ya got me there, Wisewolfhowling, though I wouldn't be surprised. Polymer is an idea whose time has come. BTW, is Wisewolfhowling a native American name?

Unless I'm missing it on their web site, I don't think so.
Their LW 1911 guns are aluminum frames.

No wisewolfhowling is a name I came up with years ago to be original. Based around the fact I have always had an interest in wolves and how a wolf pack operates

Wilson combat kz45 I believe is what I am thinking of. Saw one in my local gun shop a few months ago. He had just got it in and said he ordered back in 2011!

Yes indeed, the Wilson's KZ-45 has a poly frame.

Other poly frame 1911 style pistols:
Kimber teamed up with BUL to make their no longer in production BP10 II (I had one of these and it was a solid performer for me, external extractor and all).

BUL still makes their M-5 line of poly frame 1911 style pistols.

The STI Edge has a polymer grip.

Rock River has been promising a poly for some time now.

                          Regards,
                          Greg

Kahr SS 45 dreaming on such a winters day...

Guess I'm a polymer fan as I own and carry so many HKs.
                            Don't own a single 1911.
But if I did I would want an all stainless steel one.
                            If weight was an issue?
I could go for an alloy frame like my Sig P220/P239 guns.

But a polymer 1911 just doesn't seem right to me.

Honestly, I'm still holding out for an all stainless Kahr K45/MK45 Elite.
                            One fine day...

Oh, so shiny!!!!.....Somehow a polymer frame 1911 seems like blasphemy to me...Be like putting a jet engine on a P51 Mustang or something, just aint right....Folks should leave um like they were when God gave the first one to Moses to part the Red Sea with....Shouldn't mess with God's creations!!!
