  • Bersa Thunder worth it? Help me out.

Been looking to purchase a Bersa thunder for the wife. She likes them for the fact she is recoil sensitive. She also likes all the safeties. She isn't exactly ready to carry daily but step one is her first handgun and training.

Anyway. I found a Bersa thunder locally for sale. $400 is their price. Comes with a hybrid holster, uncle mikes holster, 3 magazines(think one is a promag), and 475 rounds of ammo. Good deal? Or should we pass? I figure the ammo alone is probably 140$ or so.

    Thanks .

Ps I would get her a kahr but she can't rack the slide reliably.

The Bersa .380's have a reputation of working well.

I bought the 9mm ultra compact for my wife as her first pistol. She liked it. I had some fail to extract problems at first but sent it in for free warranty work. It works OK now. Wife now has a Nano that works well after a breakin.
The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

Also the 475 rounds of .380 ammo is worth a lot. I can't find .380 around here anywhere.

Get her a J Frame and a speed strip and she's all set.

The Thunder is a decent enough gun. The deal is OK because of the extra mags and ammo. Would your wife use a IWB holster? If she is recoil sensitive; have you had a chance to shoot the pistol and see how she handles the recoil? If you do decide to go with the Thunder, she may appreciate the alternative grips with the finger buds. They help lessen recoil and offer a really improved grip, IMHO.

I personally prefer the slightly larger Thunder Plus, mainly because the grip fills my hand much better. The 15+1 capacity is neat too.

Here's a pic of the Firestorm/Bersa finger bump grips.

She likes my LCR in 38. She just doesn't like to shoot it. Way to snappy for her. Revolvers are great but lack any recoil soak up other than weight.

Like I said, she can't reliably work the slide. I would just buy her the cw380 but if the slide is the same it is pointless.

No she won't use the holster, I would just sell it. I have shot comparable 380s and find the recoil nonexistent compared to compact 9mm.

back a couple of years ago before one of my favorite ffl buddies closed his shop, we opened up a few of his n.i.b. Bersa's to clean out the factory crud a bit .... those things looked like the insides were chiseled out by hand by 12 year old laborers. They must have worked o.k. as he sold a bunch of them to "first time gun buyers".

Bersa or not, I'm just not a fan of .380 acp. For a few bucks more there's much better options in the Ruger LCR and S&W Body Guard revolvers in .38 spl (which are much more controllable and easier to "operate")

I can't believe I just recommended lightweight, plastic revolvers

A couple months back I bought a Bersa 380 with 2 mags a holster & about 50 rounds for $220. I would say that the complete package you're looking at is a pretty good deal. Mine will end up being my secretary's. She's already tried it out & likes it because there's not much recoil & she can rack it easily.

I like the deal so long as it's not someone's problem child gun they are trying to get rid of...If possible let your wife shoot it or something like in in size to see if she can handle the recoil...I can't believe in a gun that heavy that recoil would be a problem but she may have problems racking the slide and if thats an issue then its revolver time...Ruger LCR in 22 mag might work if both recoil and working the slide are an issue for her....

                      Good points:
Decent gun for a woman to purse carry
Ammo alone is about half of the 4 bill price
3 extra mags are worth $75 bucks or so

                      Bad points:
                      Weight
Difficult to rack for a woman
Holsters shouldn't factor into the price as they aren't worth much if anything

All in all it's a good deal because you aren't going to find any decent pistol new for much less than $400 so I would do it and if it doesn't work out for her you should be able to sell it here and get your money back....I would also try and see if you can get the gun, magazines and ammo for $350-$375 and leave the holsters with the seller...

The single stack bersa run around 260 to 280 here depending on finish bud bud's is 300 bucks. Discount the promag. There mostly junk. Got to assume!! Your wife will like a breed holster. Those holster are worth about 25bucks for me. If she gets to run some rounds first its about worth what is being asked.

I have a wife and daughter that carry the bersa 380 CC model. They love it.

I just don't like the trigger much on the Bersa's......................you don't have yours "loosened up"" yet?

You don't like the trigger?? Better never by a sig or beretta or maybe any other with a DA/SA trigger. 9lb da 4 1/2lb sa is not bad and far better than most others with the same design.

No, I don't like the trigger....................and I happen to own both Sig and Beretta. The trigger pull out of the box ranges from 5-7 sa, and 8 to 13 da.
