  • Looking for a fullsized 9mm... Thinkin a CZ

Can anyone here tell me why I should not get a CZ 75B?

I'm looking for an affordable gun for target practice at the range. I don't want anything polymer, my CM9 is my only polymer pistol and to be honest, I don't think I want any more polymer in my collection. I'll keep the Kahr for carry in outfits that don't conceal my S&W 4566TSW well.

The CZs though, I've really read nothing but good things about them. Supposedly great accuracy, dependable, etc. I of course have never shot one though, what do you think?

What other fullsized 9mms are available that are similar?

I only want 9mm because it's $10/box cheaper than the 45ACP I shoot which makes it great for target practice at the range. I still prefer to shoot 45 but need to get a reloading setup created.

I've heard mostly good things about them. Very accurate and reliable. It's on my short list of 9mm's I'm interested in.

Oh, Oh, I know this one (I feel like Horshack right now)! The best reason not to buy one is they are so awesome you won't stop with just one. I have three versions of 75b types now, still want a PCR and am thinking a P09 would be nice too. That's the problem!

Love my CZ P-01. Probably not a good 'range/target gun' choice due to the shorter 4" barrel, but definitely gotta have a CZ in the running. I agree on the P-09 suggestion, one helluva gun if you ask me. Probably will be my next 9mm. Gone back-n-forth on the P-09 vs a G17 and just can't warm up to the G17. If holster choices and sights start showing up for the P-09, which I expect they will, it'll be my next.

P-09 supposedly has a very nice trigger out of the box, but I haven't layed hands on one yet.

Why not a 75B over say the P-09, G17, maybe even the M&P or a XD/XDm. The out of the box trigger. By the time you take a stock CZ 75, regardless of which one, and get the trigger smoothed out, you'll be into the gun for a couple hundred more than the others on that list. I have probably 400 rounds thru my P-01 and its still not where I want it. Will definitely be getting a comp hammer and trigger work done at some point after some other purchases are made.

BUT. BUTT BUTT BUTT...get a CZ 75 of some flavor tricked out w/ CZ Custom for a couple hundred bucks or Cajun Gun Works for a bit more and you'll likely have the best trigger in your collection and your favorite shooter for the range.

I have the custom shop trigger and it makes a very good gun amazing...and worth every penny. They say the stock CZ trigger gets better with age but I suspect it takes way more than Chrish's 400 rounds. Still, everything you read from stock CZ owners is positive. They tend to be very passionate about their guns. I recommend them. Consider getting a trigger job if you are looking for a range gun. But these are duty weapons and make great HD guns just the way they are.

And they feel great in your hand. CZ ergonomics are outstanding and seem to feel good to many different shooters. I suspect you haven't held one yet or you'd be posting about how you already bought one.

I was looking for one in 40sw when I ran across a Browning HiPower. That's a similar sized gun I'd recommend you add to your list...if you are OK with SA. Just a thought.

I've read that too, that it'll smooth out. But I probably won't wait. I can tell a slight, very slight improvement after the 400 or so. Suspect it might be much better somewhere north of 1000 and good by 2000. But the trigger job and competition hammer with diff geometry are suppose to be even light years ahead of a well broken in CZ. Looking forward to having that work done some day.

Still, I'm not complaining...I've shot worse triggers in my time.

My only minor beef with the 75 series is not much slide to grab on to...but you get used to it.

The grip and ergos are nothing short of pure pistol nirvana...

root, sorry, just caught the no poly thing. That would eliminate the P-09 obviously. So back to the metal 75 models. All kinds of good options there, depending on your desires...safety, decocker, pre-customized, stock.

Both companies mentioned above...mainly cz custom...sell custom versions ready to go if you want it ready up front.

If I came across a good used CZ75B I'd probably get one myself. I've read nothing but good about them. You may also want to take a look at the EAA line, which is a clone of the CZ's, they make some nice target type pistols. Another good choice is the Browning Hi-Power if your wanting 9mm.

I've heard that they are really good. I was looking for one a few years ago because I wanted a 9mm and couldn't find one locally. Wish I would have. Ended up buying a 92FS Inox instead.

I have a CZ .22 rifle and it is the most accurate gun I have ever shot. I'd get it.
The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

Go with a Walther PPQ, possibly the best trigger I have ever shot. Not too expensive, mine came with 2 - 15 round mags. Great quality, have over 500 rounds through mine with no hiccups. Oh, did I mention a great trigger? Wait til you pull it, you will understand. Good luck.

I had an original CZ75, and it was a great pistol. Trying to remember, but I think mine was an '82. Ended up K-Koting it and carrying it. But, it was heavy!

One thing - the trigger bar spring retainer screw on mine broke. I basically just drilled and tapped the hole, and put in a stainless socket head cap screw. Anybody sees a k-koted CZ with that mod out there - it was mine!

I know polymer is not sought, but.... gotta tell ya..... I am VERY happy with my FNX-45, which is also available in 9mm and 40cal. The triggers are great out of the box, and only get better. Mine took about 1000 dry firings in DA and its "like buttah". Single action has some requisite travel, but is glass smooth and very light. Barrel fit to slide is tight. You really don't ever hear a complaint regarding the accuracy of the FNX at all. The one problem they did have was magazine release related (wasn't as ambi as they thought it should be). FN has long since corrected that issue. There was a hot weather related firing issue, also corrected. Back strap fastening has been improved long ago too. Since mid 2012 everything has been good with those. --- just giving you the info, should you decide to look online for feedback, older feedback may include such issues ---

And, don't overlook some of those old S&W 59 series police trade ins. Most were carried much, shot very little. You can get those for a song when you find 'em. CDNN has (or had) some for $359 shipped to your FFL. Workhorse guns in aluminum frame or steel frame (659 / 5906).

Buds has CZ75b in stainless right now for 670ish and you can "make offer" which means they'll basically take 25 bucks off. Not too bad.

                              CZ's are great!
I have a sp 01 tactical that I have shot in classes, it's amazing.
I also have a cz 85 on the way (it's the same as the 75 except it has an ambi safety, and slide lock).
My husband has a 75B, and a sp 01 compact

We love every one of those guns and have not had a single problem.
