My son is thinking about a Sig P938 for pocket carry. Any thoughts?

not much bigger than my p238. stronger round. slide on the 238 is the easiest racking slide I've come across. I'm thinking I might want a 938 for myself.

I have one (an SAS) and my wife has one (Eclipse). Both have functioned flawless to date. It is a bit bulkier than the 238 (of which I also own 2), more so than pictures and dimensions would indicate. That being said, it is equally pocket-able as a CM/PM 9 and similar in weight.

If you are comfortable with a stiff single action trigger and a 1911 style safety in your pocket, It is a fantastic shooter with great sights and a great CT laser option. I am comfortable with that, others are not. There is no right or wrong answer to that question .... just your own.

My son has the Blackwood model and loves it. He doesn't pocket carry it though, he carries it IWB. It's a nice little shooter, once you get used to the trigger and it has been 100% flawless.

It looks like a great gun. I would look at the used market. One of my customers offered me his with rosewood grips and three mags for $500 a couple of weeks ago. Nothing was wrong with his gun. Small firearms with very few rounds through them seem to be plentifull right now. I passed because I have a couple of micro nines and need no more.

I looked close at them and decided on a Beretta Nano instead for pocket carry being single action verses double action. Very happy with Nano.

              FLBri,

I concur with your assessment for the most part. The P938 is only marginally larger say 1/4" longer and taller than the P238. If your run the gun say around 200 or so rounds or even dry fire it a good deal you will find the triggers get quite a bit cleaner and lighter as the gun breaks in. I was told that by the Sig Rep's and it was the case. That also was the case with the P238.
They are both really fine shooters and both are very easy to rack, a point that my female students find very much to their liking. The sight are also very good and probably are the best in their respect classes. The break down is very easily done with the P238, now the P938 has a much longer recoil spring which can be a bit tricky in the beginning to reinstall, but not to awful bad.
Both very good guns and I would recommend either of them.

I bought a P238 not long after introduction. It and my Mustang are the only .380s I now own, I think. Being a 1911 pattern kinda guy I was looking forward to the P938. My eagerness lasted until I first got to handle one. Felt unbalanced and didn't care for it at all. Like more than one good core design adapted for a different/larger caliber....Sig tripped over this one

If you got large, hands, ears and feet you will want the 7 rd mag. the 938 is amazing.

However Jocko would not be able to handle it.
Carry like a 1911 cocked, locked and loaded.

I love my 938, but I also pocket carry often. The Kahr CM9 fills that role better. No open hammer to pick up pocket lint, no rough corners to snag; a couple ounces lighter.

If he thinks he wants to deal with the extras on a sa 1911 style pistol go for it. Others do. But if he wants a sig maybe the 290rs??

How is corrosion on the slide for IWB carry. Is the slide stainless steel?

The slide is stainless, whether it is colored or natural finish. The frame is alloy (with finish), All are very durable.
