OK, the son just walked me through on how to get the pics off my I-phone to my computer. If you must know I was shooting at a 3 1/2" steel plate at 75 yds. I hate shooting at paper. This is one of several groupings I got.

Be careful that it's not one of the newer ones made by Remington who bought out Marlin. People are have al kinds of problems. If the proof mark on the left side of the barrel just in front of the receiver is a JM then is a good chance that it's a true Marlin. If the proof mark is an REP, then it's a Remington. During the transition Remington did use some left over Marlin JM marked barrels

Let me know if you want to retire that Kimber. I guess that it won't out shoot a lever action means I will just have it be a wall hanger, but it is purdy. Congrats on the new rifle. It is purdy too.

You may be kidding but I have thought more then once about selling that safe queen. It's too pretty to take out and abuse. I'm gonna take it out tomorrow and shoot it at 75 yds. I can't believe that a lever gun can out shoot a full stock bolt action

May not be the shooter. It could be the shootee. IMHO the 39A was one of Marlins best efforts.

Sounds like you did get a really nice Marlin! I don't take my prettiest guns out and abuse them, but I do use them!

One of the few guns I still feel a need for, perhaps the only one, is a good .22 lever action. Oddly, for the last 40 years all my .22lr rifles have been auto loaders.

Good find! I picked one up at a pawnshop in the late 90's. I was waiting at the counter looking for/at shotguns that day. The guy working the counter was with another guy and he showed him the 39a, said something about a problem with the firing pin and told him the "bottom dollar price was $75...

My ears must have looked like tracking radar.

When the customer had the little rifle put back on the rack, I could not believe it. Thee counter guy grew tired of "Mr. Looker" and came down to me to ask "what can I do for you"?
"Well, you can give me that 39a for the $75..." I also bought a Benjamin .22 air rifle for a measly fifty bucks more! One of my best gun shopping days ever and the "firing pin issue" required one pass with a jewelers file to remove a slight burr. Been shooting perfect ever since.

The one thing you will find with that Marlin is this, kids LOVE shooting that gun. We all grew up seeing lever guns on TV and todays kids see AR platform rifles everywhere in their games and TV shows. Still, every kid I set up with the Marlin is happy, safe and shoot the gun extremely well. A sand bag usually holds up the muzzle then I supervise that the barrel stays downrange. Shooting the lever gun puts a big smile on a young shooters face and that puts heart warming smile on this old shooters face too.

We have three .22 bolt guns, and now one lever. And we have four .22 autos. The autos are what get used. Every time we shoot the bolt ones, we fire the first shot and then press the trigger again for another shot without working the bolt. Then I remember. But after a while we do the same thing over again.

The older I get, the more things get bumped or dropped. You don't know how many times I've dropped my 1911's while practicing twirling them.

I have one of those. Mossberg 46? It's a great shooter.
I have the military trainer version, virtually the same but is clip fed and has the British rear fold away sight. It was one of those lend / lease rifles. The stock is also full length right out to the muzzle. It's also a wonderful shooter.
Only thing I'm missing is the dust cover that rides with the bolt. Seen a few on rifles at the gunshow. Seriously pondering wearing camo and bringing a screwdriver with me.

GunParts etc hasn't had any, could get some anytime but so far no luck.

Yep! Mossberg 46. This thing has been in storage since the 70s. I cleaned it up and lubed it and it shoots great.
My 12 year old daughter claimed it.

I don't think Mossberg put serial numbers until the Gun Control Act of 68. I think your B-A series was made 1938 & 1940, but you may know better

My dad bought me my first .22 rifle when I was 10 yrs. old. It's a Remington mod. 341 Sportmaster. It also doesn't have a serial number. But I know it was made in 1936. Rem. used a 2 or 3 letter code stamped on the left side of the barrel to tell the date of manufacture. As you can tell by it's pictures I can't leave things alone.

I also have a Remington mod. 512 Sportmaster that was made in 1952. I thought it also didn't have a serial number, but I found it on the bottom of the barrel, underneath the stock. I haven't gotten around to modify it yet.

I love shooting my military trainer but shooting the 46 is good too. I can load a lot more rounds with the tube magazine than the 5 or so in my magazine. I need to find another magazine too, sometimes challenging.

Your daughters got a good eye for guns, be sure to take her along when you gun shopping.
