  • Dressed-up the Ruger Sp101

I like the looks of the Ruger SP101 and the rubber part of the stock grip; however, I don't like the looks of the stock black grip panel inserts. So, I just put on some of the Altamont snake skin rosewood grip panel inserts. Here it is. Anyone else dressed up their SP101?

I've made a few panels. I just sent a set off to Mr. Surveyor for a little variety. I'll try to find some pictures in a bit.

Those you got look great. Soooo much better than out of the box huh?

Thanks, Bawanna. Yes, they sure look alot better than the out of box ones. I didn't know you made these for the Ruger. I should have looked you up.

I got the wife a GP101 in 22 years ago so it was a natural thing to do. Also a good place to use up small pieces of wood.

Semi quick to make too. I should whittle out a bunch when I'm sitting around scratching my head thinking of something to do.

I would be interested in GP-101 replacement grips if someone was to make a few.

That's the perfect thing to do for any GP100 or SP101 IMHO. I've even seen those grips with wood inserts on a .454 Alaskan. Good job!

FYI - the GP100 rubber grips fit the Alaskan.

Bawanna, how do you do the screw inserts? Are they readily available? I've got some Zebra wood laying around that i might try if I can figure out the screw inserts.

I just buy escutchions ? from Brownells. There's a nut that is a squeeze fit on the one side, a sort of recessed washer deal on the screw head side and the screw itself.

They are just oversized for length so you have to cut them and file to fit.

I'll try to whittle some out and let everybody know when I get there. I have some zebra wood too, I'll make sure and do some out of that too.

My bueno! Nice wood on the grips and nice gun. One that I have never aquired. Still looking for the snub SP101, used of course. But never found one cheap.

You did? Brother, I've loved the originals you made me 3 years ago. I haven't had many "good surprises" lately .... Wow

Those Altamont panels look good on that SP101, well done Redstate

I bought some wood grips from Thailand for my SP101. Thought I'd go with the cheapest set they had listed on an auction site to see what the fit was like. They needed some work, but after some filing/fitting/sanding/refinishing, they're adequate.

                            Regards,
                            Greg
