  • Name these grips

I would like to order a pair of these grips. I am not sure what they are called but i need them for my 586-1 in 6 inch barrel. Does anyone know what this model grip is called. I dont think they are made any more. Thanks for the help.

I have a 686 with similar grips, a -3 version, and I think those are the original grips. So, Smith & Wesson I think.

When speaking Smith & Wesson, those are commonly referred to as "Target grips". You'll need the K/L frame size in whichever frame configuration (square or round butt) your 686 has. An auction site would probably be your best bet to find an exact version (with the low cut scallop at the top of the left panel) of the grip shown in your photo.

BTW, there was an older version of the S&W Target grips that are referred to as Coke bottle grips. When viewed from the rear, their contour is vaguely reminiscent of a classic Coke bottle.

You might also want to look at Bateleur style grips for the S&W. this style is similar to the Target grip: http://www.altamontco.com/pistol-gri...sson/k-square/

I could be wrong but I think Altamont is the O.E. supplier to Smith and Wesson for grips.

Thanks guys. Just wanted to see if there was a website that sell these on a regular basis: if not i might just buy some nice after market grips to dress up my 586-4.

I think those original S&W grips are referred to as "Coke Bottle" grips. I have some that I don't use for my Model 19. They are a good looking walnut.

Edit: After reading a post below, I did further reasearch and mine are not the "Coke Bottle" grips. I guess they are the "Target" grips. My bad. The ones in the picture above look like mine.

The target grips make he revolver look good and that is it unless you shoot single action exclusively. Very uncomfortable in double action mode. I do believe Altamount makes the grips for them are super nice but prefer finger grooved and smaller grips for fast shooting. Hogue are the best around but they are ridiculously expensive especially when a machine does all the work for them. Going to put a Altamount on my SW 617.

oh how I can relate to that.
The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

They are not Coke Bottle grips. If you find Coke Bottle grips in your "magic drawer" you have found gold.

Well I found a set but was in turmoil weather to part with them, then while looking for the stock grips for my Cobra this morning, I stumbled on a second.

Neither set looks like it's ever been on a gun. I know they were but apparently not for long.

Yes, you are correct. Hard to tell the difference. But, I found some comparison pics. Target grips is what mine are.
