Yeah, that looks great. I should be careful opening threads like this because they can get so expensive.

Very nice Armybrat! I like those grips. My New Vaquero is still sporting the black plastic grips it left the factory with and, from your photo, it looks as if your grips are a much better fit.
Have you had a chance to shoot it?
Mine is in .45 Colt and I decided to file the front sight down a bit to regulate the sights at 10 yds. with my favorite load.

            Regards,

My son has my Birdshead Vaquero in 45 Colt. I'd love to get a set of stag grips like those pictured for my Uberti Birdshead.

              Just makes it look right.

I agree with Greg on those Vaquero grips. The fit looks perfect and I know first hand how difficult it is to achieve that. It don't look all that tough but it's a challenge.

The grips fit better than the first NV I bought 2 years ago, and they are "thicker" than the slim laminated rosewood that is standard nowadays. Am thinking about getting some "bonded ivory" grip panels from Altamont - they are cheap enough and would look nice with the shiny stainless finish.

Love those birdshead grips too. Wouldn't mind having a New Vaquero .357 Montado, but with the BH grip.

You guys are a bad influence. I of course had to visit Altamont. I think the imitation stag would be just SWEET.

I didn't know that did so much other stuff. Rifle stocks, all kind of stuff.

I sent an email as they suggested requesting a notification if they ever do Uberti grips. Almost pushed the button on some Imitation Stag 1911's but managed to roll away.

While Altamont is the supplier of "factory" grips for Ruger, I've read a few complaints from some who reported theirs not fitting too well. I bought the fake ivory and a laminated set for that Super Blackhawk, and they fit pretty good, but not perfect.

Added some Altamont "bonded ivory" grip panels to my New Vaquero - they look & feel better than the Talo "star" pattern panels that came on it.

Look great and it looks like the fit is very good too.

Wonder if that stuff can be scrimshawed? Looks fine as is, just curious.
