Well, I decided the HK P30L V3 I bought recently wasn't working for me so I used it as part of a trade.
Let me add here, I like the P30, just not the version I bought. The the left side slide stop lever is just too long on the version I had for the style grip I like to use use and I ride that lever.

As part of the trade, I picked up a new CZ75 SP-01 . Nice pistol and I already like the CZ75 (I have a 75B I'm quite fond of).
yqtszhj turned me on to some nice grips awhile back and I wanted to get a set for the SP-01. Looking on Amazon, most of the grips were about $56; some came with fancy screws, some without. They also had a set that came with screws and "O" rings for $39.99, but these grips were in pink and black with screws that have a multiple hue finish. I admit, these were not my first choice, but I love a deal and, after some thought, placed an order for them.

My plan was to either just live with them as they came or try some RIT dye on them (paint would be the fall back option). The same with the grips screws, live with them or plate them with black nickel (if stainless, otherwise parkerize).

    Here they are:

I'm going to dye them, but I'm undecided about the screws. Here are the dyes I have on hand:

I want to go with the brown, but find it's only half of a packet. Still, I decide to go with it:

Well, I made two mistakes here. One going with just a half packet of dye and not bead blasting the grips. The dye is not so bad, though the coverage didn't look that good at first:

Cleanup with a toothbrush had that looking better:

However, the grips had polished areas and areas that were not, so I decided to blast grips. This removed the dye finish, but I think it allow for better penetration of the dye latter on:

This time around, I added a full packet of the scarlet to the brown dye. Here's a panel being rinsed and you get a glimpse of the mixed color:

I like the results much better:

I'm going to use the screws as they came:

Now, while I like the grips as they are, I know that the blasted surface will also hold oils. This will change the grip color once again. I'm just going to apply some skin care oil to them and see how that goes.

    to be continued....

I like the screws as they are.

How did the multi colored photo occur?

I kind of like that look.

I agree the final outcome is really nice.

Greg, you might like some of the Cajun Gun Works trigger parts for that. I put some in mine and it is one of the best triggers I own now.

In that photo you are seeing some dyed areas, some discolored by the dye, and some areas back to the original colors (mostly the blacks).
I was blasting for an even surface texture and achieved that without having to blast all the way to the original colors.

              Thanks for suggestion Al

Did you go for a kit? I have the extended firing pin kit and some trigger parts in my cart there, but haven't completely decided on them.

My 75B has had work done on it and has a very good trigger. I can see how that trigger work was accomplished and was thinking of doing the same on the SP-01.

I have that same model CZ, bought it new in 2012, the stock trigger isn't bad, but wears in nicely after a couple thousand rounds. It has become my favorite range gun, 9mm is reasonable now and the gun is a dream to shoot, perceived recoil is almost nothing. I kind of like the factory rubber grips, are you getting rid of yours (hint hint)?

The 18 round CZ mags are hard to find, and expensive. I bought two 17 round Mec-gear mags from Greg Cote, for the price of one 18 rounder. I think, do not know, that the standard CZ75B mags work also.

                    kenemoore,
I haven't really thought about what I was going to do with the rubber grips. If I decide to let them go, I'll shoot you a PM.

15 and 16 round 75B mags work in it without issue (as do the 18 round mags in the 75B)

I've found making a set of grips or two that some folks are into contrast and flash, other prefer more subtle.
I like both, usually depends on the gun.

Fortunately in this case either works just fine. I love the finished product but also liked that contrast look which is similar to the last experiment in the cauldron.

I think you out to mold some dragons into the cauldron, so we can pick it up with our forearms, snatch the pebble and it's time for us to go.

I can only imagine what that poor lad was thinking. Damn this is really gonna hurt!!!!

Nice work as usual there Greg. And I like that SP-01
