Not to worry. The government is too inept to make any use of intelligence date. Even after a tip from Russia they couldn't figure out that the two jerk offs from Boston were up to no good.

For those of you that think this is OK because you don't want another 9/11. First, the government, with all their information that has been PROVEN to have existed did NOTHING to stop 9/11. They hadn't a freakin' clue it was going down. They had data and didn't stop Boston. They had data and didn't stop Fort Hood. They had data and didn't stop the FIRST bombing at the WTC. They had data and never found WMD (btw, they DID exist, if you believe a congressional oversight committee w/ a sub 10% approval rating, then OK, believe it).

So, you say, fine, let them have their data. I'm not calling sex lines, I'm not talking to terrorists.

But, you are calling gun shops looking for guns. You are surfing the internet reading about firearms. You (may have) used the internet to visit the NRA site to pay your dues. You also called your grandma in Toledo and ordered sushi last night. Big freakin' deal on all counts.

        BUT!!!

Let me refer you to the rest of the 'innocuous use of government collected data recently'.

        IRS...Fox News...EPA...AP...

Enjoy your audit in 10 years when this is 1000 times worse because we all said 'duh, they have done it for years' ... or ... 'duh, bush did it' ... and just stand by and continue to watch them do it.

Yea, good points from all that seem to think its OK. The government never mis-uses any data or information ... not to mention they are totally compentent to begin with.

        Bah! Not. Needs to stop.

Actually, sorry folks. I was a little 'off' on my prediction. Upon further contemplation...enjoy your audit + rectal exam from the IRS in 10 years if we don't stop this now. Since they'll be running your health care too.

The American electorate is LOADED with stupid idiots.

Fortunately, wrt this phone record collection deal, no one asked the American electorate. They probably would have said no.

I can't stand Obama and his socialism anymore than the rest of you, but he isn't doing anything more than what his predecessor did. He has as president the right to do it under the War Powers Act and the Patriot Act, like it or not. He doesn't care who you called or how many times you called them unless your calls are to a number linked to Al Qaeda or to another known terrorist organization. You can still call the phone sex line as often as you want. I have infinite patience with children, but no patience what-so-ever for adults who act like children and that is exactly what some of you are doing. Grow up.

I'm all grown up. Didn't I see Our Glorious leader say very plainly that the war on terror is over in his address a week ago?. He won it. He has expanded what his predecessor did many times over. But ---- I'm sure he wouldn't do anything that wasn't for the common good of us all. Excuse me. I just got off the boat.

You don't have to be afraid of me. I'm just one man. You don't have to fear Obama. He's just one man. Both he and I are greatly out numbered. There are approximately 312 million of you and about 78 million of you are armed. You constitute the largest armed force in the world. Afraid of Obama, not on your life.

It's not what they know that is the concern. It's how the data could be misused for political gain that is the concern.

We've already seen a supposedly non-political governmental entity (IRS) use information to target a group of people based on words like tea party and patriot to possibly influence an election.

So who will guarantee a current or future administration, will not search through the massive db of americans internet visits and searches to look for words like patriot, NRA, gun forums or whatever to target individuals for IRS scrutiny??

                        Ignorance is bliss.

That is incredible BS. Obama derided the Bush administration for the very thing you are defending him of now.

Sen Obama December 15, 2005 - "And if someone wants to know why their own government has decided to go on a fishing expedition through every personal record or private document - through library books they've read and phone calls they've made - this legislation gives people no rights to appeal the need for such a search in a court of law. No judge will hear their plea, no jury will hear their case. This is just plain wrong."

You gots no f'ing clue about what's really goin' on out there. Hard for the paranoid to accept, I understand. But in this case, your gov't is and has been doing it's utmost best to cover our asses. No "planes into towers" since 2001 doesn't come easy, cheap, and/or without some price. How do you think the last however many attempts that you've even heard about have been stopped? And the 100x more you haven't heard about?

Decide what you want....private phone record metadata or Chicago central a flaming ash pit....and post your yes/no answer here.

Paranoid? Cover my ass?? How dare you. I fought for this country and my oath was to defend the Constitution. Period.

Obtaining/storing data form internet searches/ data mining of people not accused of committing a crime is a violation of the 4th Amendment. I suggest you go and read Obama's speech, as constitutionally speaking he was correct.

"Giving law enforcement the tools they need to investigate suspicious activity is one thing - and it's the right thing - but doing it without any real oversight seriously jeopardizes the rights of all Americans and the ideals America stands for." - Barrack Obama

“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” - Benjamin Franklin

Give me liberty or give me death. There...decided.

Come on folks. You all know we are only interested in the 2nd amendment. The rest of them are no big deal. We are NO better than those who don't respect the 2nd. Privacy? Who cares. Until it comes home to some of us. We all know how honest our leaders are. IRS maybe? When someone we really like can't run for office because in 2013 they found he had a minor infraction that can be blown up to major proportions, we'll never know it. No matter what his name is, learn to love Obama. That is where we deserve to be if we don't open our eyes. All the info they gathered sure did a fine job in Boston.
