Did anyone think they WEREN'T collecting data, from gun forums and patriot or tea party sites? I figure they've been collecting data for years.

From the Tea Party and some Patriot sites, of course. We've never really much cared about the gun forum crazies, though. They're pretty much harmless.

            Time for peace

I will continue to post on this and on other sights but due to concerns over crime , the environment, world peace, equality and justice I have rid myself of all weapons and firearms.

            Peace, my brothers and sisters.

If just one of you idiots ever has someone from the government knock on your door let me know and I'll take back calling you idiots. You do know that the Guardian and Canada Free Press are about as liberal as they come. And you call yourselves conservatives.

The Guardian is very liberal. No doubt. But if it weren't for Glenn Greenwald from The Guardian (and the yet to be named whistleblower(s)), there would be no NSA story this past week. PRISM would be unknown. And we would not know about Boundless Informant, either. That liberal rag The Guardian is the one breaking most of the stories recently about our current administration. I care more about the truth than which side it is coming from. It took guts to bring this to light.

I couldn't agree with you more, Mr. MikeyK, SIR! ...

FWIW, there's an old Zen adage that, "If you understand, then things are as they are. If you don't understand, then things are still as they are." I feel that, in order to ultimately understand, I first need to know things exactly as they actually are.

And to accomplish this goal I find myself relying less and less on broadcast/cable news. IMHO, the "news" parlayed by the networks here in the U.S. is, more often than not, nothing more that a cover story "crafted" by wordsmiths in collusion with network moguls to promulgate some hidden agenda. (Either that or it's a continual stream of "fluff 'n stuff' stories like the 9+ weeks of "updates" we had to endure about the death of Michael Jackson!)

Indeed, I hasten to add that we have many friends in Europe who watch American newscasts [CNN, FOX, etc.] more for entertainment than enlightenment! (One of them confessed to me that he and his wife frequently laugh out loud over some of the preposterous "news stories" reported as fact here in the U.S.)

Regardless, one of the few remaining sources of truth available to 'the common man on the street' is the internet - mainly because it's still "free" - at least until the DC politburo decides to 'abridge' it like they did our other 'unalienable' rights - like the freedom from illegal searches and seizures! (Ask Jessie Ventura why he no longer flies commercially within the U.S. or its territories!)

Of course, the WWW is almost as full of junk as broadcast news, but, unlike the networks, I firmly believe there IS a thread of truth woven throughout its 'fabric.' And, the facts CAN be revealed IF one is able to do enough research! (FWIW, I find it hypocritical to the extreme that the CIA has the biblical phase, "And The Truth Shall Set You Free", chiseled into the marble facade adorning its grandiose entrace! FWIW, prior to 911, funding for the NSA alone exceeded $40 BILLION annually and what did it get us? I'd fire 'em 'en masse' and disband the agency altogether! [Don't EVEN get me started!!!])

So, in the final analysis, it's incumbent on each of us to continually re-dedicate ourselves to finding the "thread of truth" that's woven throughout the few viable sources left to us - like the internet! And, IMHO, the "guys with the needles" in these pages (web or otherwise) are patriots like Glenn Greenwald and his 'source', Mr. Edward Snowden (THE [ex-]NSA sub-contractor who leaked the info about that wholly diabolical and UN-American "Prism" ("Prison?") Program!)

Finally, I guess I should mention I feel this way because, after all is said and done, the fine citizens of (what was once) the great USofA have, since 09-11-2001, been fed a steady diet of disinformation, misinformation, deception, and outright lies by our elected Federal officials and their cadre of cohorts and servile sycophants within the public media. (Sometime, take a few hours and delve into accounts like the military's assassination of Pat Tillman'!)

Basically, for over a decade, "the wool has been pulled over our eyes and, even then, it's 50% rayon!" A country deserves the government it has and just look at what we've got! IMHO, ol' Ben Franklin was 'spot on' when he said that, ...
... "A country that is willing to give up some of its freedoms for a little more security deserves neither!"

NB: I frequently quote the 'Founding Fathers" because I think their words are ...
... are even more appropriate today than they were when first penned ...
... despite the obsequious assertions found in modern (and ridiculously loquacious) articles like this one!
