  • Obama Shutting Down Thousands of Small Businesses

Effective July 1, Thousands of business that direct bill to Medicare will be dropped from the Medicare Provider roles. Medicare went to a bid/award system for service providers. Normally I would agree with that from an economic perspective, but not a service one.

So if you were a small business selling 80% of your medical equipment to folks over 65 who all use Medicare, and Medicare drops you, what do you do? Lay off everybody who worked on the sales and maintenance of Medicare equipment if you think you can survive or close the doors if you can't.

Obama has proven again he doesn't care about small business.

It's already tough enough to find decent service for medical equipment as it is. Some of the small shops are the only ones that actually provide good help, especially on like power chairs etc.

You no doubt already know this.

nope - he never has --- remember the 1000's of car dealers who had their franchises pulled during that whole GM/Chrysler BK thing? Each dealer had employees who lost their jobs... Each dealer added considerable amounts of value to their communities in income taxes, hiring local vendors, donating to local causes, etc.

He did that his first year in office. None of it helped the auto bailout. It was strictly arbitrary and contrary to free enterprise... Nothing this administration does any more surprises me.

Neither of my DME's made the cut. I signed up with a new one for my CPAP stuff today. They seem okay and friendly, but I sure hated to leave the one I had.

I work in this arena.... the competitive bidding process will screw the medicare beneficiaries into the ground with poor service and the lowest quality goods the dme dealer can get his hansds on.
The dme's that won the bids will be like slashing your wrists waiting for your heart to pump out their blood. All at a time when the boomers are hitting the system and they are the ones that paid the majority into the medicare system.
50-66% of all independent DME's dealers will be Out of business by the end of the year.
anyone needing help with this can PM me.....

My first inquiry to a prospective DME was to Apria who doesn't have all that good a reputation at least on cpaptalk.com. They refused to sell me CPAP supplies since they didn't provide the machine, which killed the deal. For kicks I visited their new website where they show the products they sell. The had only one machine (the most basic CPAP machine I've seen) but no Auto CPAPs. They also had only one Bi-Pap and 1 of the other type. They didn't list any supplies referring instead to their supply website. This is the epitome of what downtownv is talking about.

I interviewed and chose Lincare after a visit to them. They are real folks supplying all the CPCP stuff I need and fun to do business with.

It wasn't arbitrairy. Obama picked the winners and losers. The winners supported democrat candidates and causes. The losers, not.

try the new income tax rules for those of us that are self employed/small business that buy our own insurance. Now we're going to go from 7-1/2% gross income to meet a tax deduction to a full 10%.

I guess the bummercare idiots realized that since most of us that actually pay out of our own pockets (i.e. we actually write the check to the insurance company) have seen anywhere from a 20-30% increase in premiums in the last 18 months (soon to be 50-75%), they had to up the ante on us.

                I ain't a happy camper.

Both are huge national companies with low paying high turnover in people avoid them...

                    Partially true!
It was a national bid, BUT not certified so the reimbursement amounts are rumored to be what Barry wanted the number to be (47% reduction) who can stay in business with w 47% decrease in payment, with a 90 day wait to receive a check and additional paperwork for justification, and their right to charge you back for the payment ANY time they want! Like I said slash your wrists and wait to pump off your own blood.... slooooowly.

AMEN!!! I used to work in the DME industry here in DFW and Apria had the WORST rep out of all we dealt with. Lincare was okay, that is who my mom and dad dealt with when my dad had oxygen. You might want to try Southern Pharmaceutical. They do DME and have an office here in DFW and also based out of Mississippi if I remember correctly. The company I worked for used to do DME (CPAP/BiPAP) and was a compounding pharmacy. The DME got sold to Southern Pharm years ago, the O2 had already been sold to them many more years ago. The company I worked for only wanted to do compounding..
