  • Good to be King!

It's good to be royalty it would seem.

"There are rules for the common people and rules for their "leaders," and only in rare cases do the same rules cover both."

"Earlier this year, Iowa Governor Terry Branstad's speeding SUV was pursued by a highway patrol officer who decided (or was instructed) not to pull it over after realizing whose vehicle it was. Like in Colorado, certain public vehicles are issued plates that aren't listed with the Iowa DMV, which makes these vehicles automatically exempt from traffic cam tickets, parking violations and apparently, even speeding clocked by an on-duty state trooper. It should be noted that the trooper raising the complaint about the governor's speeding driver (another state trooper) was placed on leave after making this public."

    Aint it just awesome...

Not uncommon. I have heard stories of Washington State Troopers trying to pull over the governors motorcade because they were driving at 80 MPH through their stretch of asphalt. They never slowed down and were told to stop pursuit and resume normal patrol. I believe they are all State owned vehicles, not privately owned vehicles.

Remember Gov Corzine's high speed accident?
The NJSP rumor was that HE was driving the Suburban not the assigned NJ Trooper!

I think that it's standard procedure for high ranking officials vehicles to be immune from traffic citations. Maybe if they are drunk they may get a ride home, but other than that, they can pretty much drive however they want.
I hear back east, all the visiting diplomats just trash any parking tickets or anything they get, and claim diplomatic immunity from them, and any other traffic violations and such. They been accused of bringing in kilos of white powders in their diplomatic baggage, which isn't subject to search. Wouldn't phase me to find out it's true, knowing some of the scum we let into the country for the freakin UN.
