Its a big deal b/c of what its over, agreed. But I meant the gov't shutting down is NOT a big deal, we can live w/o 80% of what they claim to provide. 80% of what is provided by the US government is for the moocher class. That goes for most benefit checks, services, whatever. Plain and simple. And we can do without it.

People aren't gonna stand for it for long. How are they gonna stop people from visiting Nat'l parks. They couldn't even stop ~100 or so WWII vets (senior citizens) from visiting the memorial on the mall. Why do I need a freakin' park ranger to give me a guided tour of Yellowstone. Ugh...idiots, all of them!

Tea and libertarian folks in Congress need to keep this up. Let it all implode for once.

Rumor has it Boehner is cutting a deal with house democrats. Basically the shut down is being caused by a small band of tea party people. To keep his speakership, Beohner has been bowing to them. I'm hearing of a deal where the majority of the republicans will join with the house democrats to give the president what he wants. In return the house democrats will pledge their support and votes to keep Boehner in the speaker of the house position.

          Posting In Politics

It means that I don't have to go to work like I did yesterday.....which is what retired is/was supposed to mean anyway.

Still somewhat on topic......I decided today to go look at ACA costs and coverage. I haven't really cared wrt me. Even after I eventually roll off OHI, I have Medicare with TFL behind it and wife always has TriCare to fall back on last ditch if she wasn't employed. So, thinking there's always the chance I've been knee jerk condemning something I didn't really understand I decided to take a look.

What an insane freaking not funny joke!! At a healthy age 52 wife's premiums for agrossly inferior, relatively high deductible, HMO plan would run twice what her 90/10 PPO group plan option through her small business workplace is costing us....including the company's base contribution/cost.

          So, in conclusion:

          -- ACA deserves the ridicule
-- ACA should be properly renamed the UCA...until then then Obama Care will do....at least for working folk.
-- Remember food stamps....this be health care stamps
-- This is/was totally worth shutting down the government over. And, much as I generally dislike Tea Party political radicalism, in this case I be witcha you bro's.

Edit....I do not post in Politics. This thread was moved as/after I replied. Normally I would delete the post as per my stated policy. This one I'm gonna let stand. I am so fokkin' pissed.

Yes Jocko, that roping off the memorials, is strictly an FU to the public. Just like with the sequester, he instructed officials to close the things that the public would most like to see. This is posted over in the Politics section, but describes how a group of WWII vets pushed through the barricades and viewed the WWII memorial. with the help of a congressmen who distracted the guards while they pushed through the barricades. GO VETS!!

Government shuts down, stock market goes up. So what's that say???? must be good for america and business.
The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

Though we often disagree, ltxi, I commend you for your post and stance. We need voices from all persuasions to knock this one out. ACA is not affordable and does not provide care. We are in the same boat. I ran mine as a just see and best math I came up with was on the scale of 230% more. Probably more than that for more comparable coverage. No thank you, Mr. President.

                            Gov't Shut Down.... Should mean:
                            NO PAY
They pay for their own benefits while shut down
                            Loss of vacation accrual
Loss of lifetime benefits (health insurance and pay)
Disciplinary action including but not limited to automatic loss of jobs for key positions (all of them)
                            ETC...

Would the government allow public service jobs (fire, police, ambulance, sanitation, etc...) shut down without punishment to those individuals? Why is the gov't treated differently? Wake up America!

This so called "Shut Down" deal is a real eye opener....The EPA currently has 16,205 employees listed....Of those 16,205 employees only 963 are listed as essential...Now let me get this straight, if only 6% of EPA employees are essential and 94% or 15,232 are considered NON essential employees and were sent home, WTF do they do and why are they on the Government teat in the first place??????.......

That my friend is just the EPA. Look at each of the other multitude of Federal Agencies and figure out the essential non essential math.

                                You'll cry seriously.

I work for a small city, I see the huge and I mean huge amount of waste both in employees that just hold down chairs and use resources, water fountains, toilets, parking places and equipment, trucks, back hoes, tools and equipment. I want to cry everyday.

Take it up a notch to the county level and you multiply that by probably 500 or 1000.

Now take that to the state level and multiply again by probably 50,000.

Now go Federal and hell the federal deficit comes to mind. No calculator can calculate the waste without melting.
