  • For The Vets

I could never, under any circumstance, fathom that I would ever publicly share my most treasured private moments and dreams in writing. Likewise, I never considered that I would survive to witness a Commander in Chief that would allow our Government to disrespect our fallen heroes for partisan political consideration.
In this process, this Commander in Chief has also violated the promise that our Government made to me, and my fellow Marines that fought for this once great country in North Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, the Persian Gulf World War II, World War I, and other Wars thru 1775*.
I am a proud Korean Veteran, and was wounded three times doing my duty as a Combat Infantry Marine in 1952 and early 1953. Virtually every day that goes by, my mind still wanders to the experiences that I, and fellow Marines, encountered together while confronting our enemy. On three particular, separate, and most memorable actions, I was fortunate enough to be in a location which allowed me to carry off three of my wounded Marine squad members that were all severely injured during combat operations against the Chinese army in the North Korea campaign. Only one of these fine Marines survived his wounds, and he wore leg braces for the rest of his life. These experiences have visited me almost every night for the past 60 years or so. I tried alcohol to make them go away, but that did not work. After a while I accepted these visits as a message of just how fortunate I was to have survived.
Life has, in general, been good. I am always very proud of my performance as a Marine and as a Veteran. This country does not owe me any unreasonable debt for my past military service. What it does, however, owe all of our Veterans is respect, and an honest acknowledgement to honor the promises made to all Veterans, both living and dead, as part of the contract to serve our country. Memorials to all of our Veterans, regardless of the wars they memorialize belong to all Veterans. They were bought and paid for by the over one million Americans in uniform, whom have either been killed under arms, or died since 1775 performing military service other than combat.
There can be no excuse imaginable for President Obama--and his party minions, such as Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi-- to continuously practice the disrespect and partisan political actions, which so dishonor the contributions that our Veterans have made to secure the peace and honor of our country.
American Veterans should wake up and take our country back from the grasp of these despots. There is no other segment of our citizenry that has more experience, character, love of country and capability to lead in a much-needed effort such as this.
I encourage all Veterans to step up and once again answer the call. If this country ever needed their courage and leadership it is now. Make no doubt about it, we are at war with these Washington Clowns, and we can win. Let’s take one more objective.

William. Thanks for your sharing, I know how difficult it is, myself being a veteran of the VietNam War. I too am troubled at night at times from my experiences, however, I stand assured that we did it for our country and families now and to come. We, Korean and VietNam Veterans, didn't receive the accolades our troops now get,(and deservedly so), but our comrades made up the difference. I am not sure what or how to correct the misfortune our country is going through presently, but I agree with everything you so eloquently said.
Although, being in the Air Force afforded me better than our point troops, the danger was still always present, even on our "safer" bases. We can change things for our friends, just need a jump start somehow. Take care and Thank You for your service. William W.

Well said. Paraphrasing the only thing Obama has truthfully said is that elections matter. Get involved in the political process early on (precinct level and before the primaries), be an official observer at a polling place, and get out the vote. There is more to turning around our country than just showing up and casting one vote for the lesser of two bad choices. And the disrespecters to our Nation are well versed in how to win in politics.

I need to clarify that I'm not the author of this essay...just passing it along.

I am a 100% disabled combat Veteran of the Vietnam war. I think it is shameful and a disgrace for any Veteran to try to use his wounds as a tool to bolster or disparage any of our political leaders regardless of party. I have found that members of both parties share equal compassion and appreciation for those who have served our country.

I thank you for your service and sacrifice but you are out of line Mr. DeVore.

Technically correct and they were right to do it. Their intent to defund the runaway train called obummer care.

They apparently got paid off and wet on themselves and gave in. I was hoping they would stay the course.

"Wasn't it the house republicans who shut down the government and thus the parks and monuments ???"

Only if one subscribes to Obama's "compromise means my way or the highway" and Reid's and Obama's "all or nothing" requirement for funding, which was created for this occasion.

Note that the House passed numerous specific funding bills that Reid refused to allow the Senate to vote on and that Obama said he would veto.

And why would open air, no gate monuments and parks have temporary barricades installed at more cost than just doing nothing? [rhetorical question, no answer desired]

Focusing on only the Republicans is omitting significant Democrat involvement.

One's glass can be viewed as half full or half empty. I'm normally a half full man.

When it comes to our politicians; I'm an empty man.

For those who who denigrate Mr. DeVoe's statement; kiss my Rosie red ass.

Nope, it was nobamas refusal to negotiate and nobamas direct decision to cause pain to the public so he could use the lame stream media, his propaganda network, to blame the R's. The feds are getting all their pay back for NOT working and all his golf courses remained open. They could have stayed open, just like the illegals they ALLOWED to use the parks while forcibly removing veterans. You have to get your news from places other than the main stream media if you want to learn anything.
