How did he determine that those to men were enemy scouts? We don't need loose cannons on the battlefield.

So what happened to the trigger man? I think we are not hearing the whole story and the known facts...as well as the testimony/case against the Lt. If the motorcyclists were scouts...then they were the enemy. If they were just commuting, then the Lt is accountable for smoking two civilians.

As for being another Vietnam...it already is another Vietnam. Can the Afgans get their sh** together? No, that's part of their culture.

I served on active duty for six years in the United States Navy. I attained the rate of E-5 which was as high as I could go in the time that I served. I was honorably discharged in December of 1971. I served during the Vietnam era.

After WWII we tried, convicted and executed war criminals. This officer was tried and convicted by the same military in which he served in a military court of law. He wasn't tried by the POTUS. Apparently, he screwed up. Now he's paying for it. It's unfortunate, but **** happens, particularly in war.

ROE's change from region to region, day to day. Really sucks that we have to follow the rules, set by us, when the other side has no rules at all. But this is what makes us who we are as a country and as the finest military the world has ever known.

I agree...we don't have all the facts to get emotional about this. Hard for me to draw any opinion. All we know is that both sides do break the rules. It is war. Unfortunately some poor soldier gets to be an example for our crappy leadership when he feels he is doing his job. With a leader like Obummer, how can anyone be certain what is right and wrong.

True but Odumbass is NOT a competent leader. He is just a ***** puffing pogue that the lowest common denominator aka low information/intelligence voter foisted upon us.

As much as I may disagree with the rules of engagement and despite of how much I hate the radical Islamic terrorists we have to have a disciplined military. Regardless of my personal opinions of our president, Obama didn't determine what the rules the rules of engagement would be. This officer knew what the rules of engagement were and chose to violate them. He now has to live with the consequences of his decision. His was not to question, why? You know the rest of it. Anyone who has served in the military knows where I'm coming from.

I hear where you are coming from and your points make sense. However, there is no way that we have ALL the facts. It is an article....maybe biased. It is difficult to judge from that alone. We don't know the rules for engagement nor who issues them. There is not even any way to know what influence Berry has on the rules for engagement. That said, I DO understand and appreciate your conclusion Muggsy. For me, I can't pass any judgment on this soldier. Perhaps he is getting what he has coming to him. Perhaps he felt he was doing his job properly. We have no way of really knowing for sure. JMO.

My, My, I see people defending the taliban here instead of our soldiers. When in war, do as they do, fight on their terms. Don't tie 1 arm behind your back to even out the fight.

For the life of me I can't figure out exactly why America still has Military personnel on the ground in that God Forsaken POS Country in the first place...
You can't fight a war if you spend most of the time trying NOT to P!ss off the enemy....If you go to war you go all the way and pour it on the enemy with everything you got....This war much like Vietnam has turned into a Police action and Soldiers aren't Policemen....A soldier is trained to kill people and break things and when you train them one way and then try to utilize them in a different, kinder more gentle way you are asking for trouble....

I'm sorry but the Afghans will never be anything but cave men living in the stone age and you can bet just as soon as we leave that sand pit that every penny of money and every piece of equipment we gave the so called Afghan Government will be turned over to the Taliban who will run the place just as they have for thousands of years and not one damn thing will change....

I don't want to see another American get as much as a hang nail fighting for those lost cause A holes and IMO we should pack up everything we can and get the he!! out of that chit hole ASAP....Heck I think we are better off letting them fight amongst themselves as they have for thousands of years and will continue to for thousands more and they don't seem to mind killing each other for Allah so why not let them have at it....The sooner we get out of there the better off both countries will be....Someday I hope we learn that you can't make a Democracy loving free country like America out of a bunch of stone age backwards thinking Muslum religious fanatics who hate us and don't want to be like us in the first place....

I agree with those sentiments. If we go to war it should be all out war fought to win in the shortest possible time. I hate to see to see our men and women being killed or wounded in battle, but I also had my fill of planes full of Americans being flown into buildings full of Americans. I haven't forgotten what Muslim extremists did to us on 9/11. I've said a number of times that we should demonstrate our ability to turn sand into glass. That's what I feel it will take to adjust the Muslim's attitudes.
