Getting legal is not expensive if you enter the US by legal means!

Yes it takes time and the paperwork and interviews are a pain, They even have to study for a test during the interview. When my wife and step daughter went trough the process it was not that hard to do! Just time consuming and a lot of paper work.

Well my friends ARE attempting to enter the US through legal means. While I cannot speak to 20 years ago, TODAY it is very expensive = many thousands of dollars. Even my friend's lawyer recommended he just get married because it could save him a lot of $$.

I'm glad your family was able to immigrate easily. However, today, the process is the unmentioned half of the immigration problem.

Yeah it depends on how you're coming in. 26 years ago I got my new wife here in about 6 months. If you're coming in by marriage it's a bit easier. Still the fees are there.

If you're immigrating as professionals or business people (as opposed to entering with working visa's only) you're gonna pay a small fortune.
