  • Forgotten Heros, April 19th, 1943

On the eve of Passover, April 19, 1943, SS and police units entered the Warsaw ghetto, intending to liquidate it and deport its remaining inhabitants. Instead, an armed uprising began, and the Jewish resistance fighters would hold off the German forces for nearly a month. The Warsaw ghetto uprising was the largest, symbolically most important Jewish uprising, and the first urban uprising, in German-occupied Europe. On the anniversary, we honor the courage of all who resisted, whether with arms or with spirit. Of course the NAZ!S quashed the rebellion, but some fighters held out for almost a month. I don't know if the rebels were more brave or desperate, but at least they went down swinging. :33:

"To symbolize the German victory, Stroop ordered the destruction of the Great Synagogue on Tlomacki Street on May 16, 1943. The ghetto itself was in ruins. Stroop reported that he had captured 56,065 Jews and destroyed 631 bunkers. He estimated that his units killed up to 7,000 Jews during the uprising. "

It's an article from the US Holocaust Memorial Museum and does a good job of telling the story.

I grew up reading Leon Uris' novels. Mila 18 sounded familiar... about the Warsaw ghetto uprising. I remember that one impressing me quite a bit.

Leon Uris was a famous writer and everyone has to have read some of his books and or seen the movies. From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leon_Uris

First dis-arm then off to the German death camps. Makes me wonder why the Jews didn't join the Polish resistance.

            Thanks for the link.

Has anyone ever heard of the Normalcy Bias? It basically means that people can't or won't believe that things are going to get bad. The Jews in Germany didn't flee, even as their business were being looted and signs were everywhere that they should flee the country. The Normalcy Bias, kept them from thinking that things could get as bad as they did.
Wikipedia explains it a little better: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normalcy_bias

I think many Americans are living under Normalcy Bias today, we just can't imagine things like the collapse of our currency, food shortages, large scale riots, and a breakdown of society, that many economists and other people are predicting will happen in the near future. When OPEC abandons the dollar as the only means to pay for oil that will be the kiss of death for the dollar. Sometime in the 70's a deal was made with OPEC, that in return for protecting the OPEC nations, Saudi Arabia in particular, that in return they would price their oil in dollars only, that meant that countries that wanted oil, first had to buy dollars, and then buy the oil. This practice is on the way out. Some countries are beginning to accept other currencies for their oil, most notably Iran. But it seems like the OPEC countries are set to follow. This process of other countries having to buy USA dollars to purchase oil, has kept the dollar afloat, allowing us to spend more than we produce as a nation. But this practice is predicted to end in the near future, which will cause the value of the dollar to plunge, throwing us into another great depression. Add all the debt that has been added since 2000, and the dollar will be practically worthless.
If anyone travels overseas often, they can probably tell you how the dollar is losing it's value. Already Mexico limits the amount of dollars you can convert to peso's at one time, I think its $1500, and many places that used to accept the dollar are no longer taking it. They say that years ago, a person could travel the world, and never bother exchanging currency, as dollars were accepted almost everywhere. This is no longer the case. That is one reason gold has skyrocketed in price over the last decade or so as people seek to put their dollars into something that will retain it's value. I am a bit leery of gold, since back in the 30's people were forced to turn in their gold, for a price determined by the government. But their are other precious metals, Platinum, Palladium, Silver, that will maintain their value and go up in price as the dollar fails. I guess some time back, the financial leaders of the most influential countries, held a meeting to discuss what currency would replace the dollar as the "World Standard" and I think they decided that a new "Global" currency was needed. The USA was NOT invited, nor even heard about this meeting until after it was over. It discusses that on the video or on the text page I link too below.

Porter Stansberry has another video out, discussing some not too good events he expects to happen. I guess some bill called FATCA kicks in July 1st, and cause you to pay more taxes. He also thinks that some kind of social upheaval is just around the corner. Of course he wants to sell you his newsletter. He's been right before and he's been wrong, but I've been hearing a lot of the same type stuff lately.

The Video: http://pro.stansberryresearch.com/13...IQ307/?h=trueI Llnk to the text version here: http://pro.stansberryresearch.com/13...ANEW/EPSIQ376/
I prefer the text version since I can read faster than watching the video.
Others like to listen to the video while they are doing other things.

We see a lot of changes going on around us. The government admits to being some 16 Trillion in debt, but that doesn't account for obligations such as Social Security, Government Pensions, Food Stamps, Welfare, and all the other things the government is obligated to pay, the real figure is MUCH more than 16 Trillion. That is on the video too.
We have the DHS buying up all that ammo, and some of them actually saying they are preparing for some type of civil war or at least some rioting, or local rebellions and such.

If nothing else, I'm worried that all this gun-grabbing and confiscation is going to set off some kind of rebellion, that will spread from the Northeast across the country. It's kind of crazy, you got the gun-grabbers on one side, urging the government to take action, while you have the 2A advocates on the other side, refusing to obey the law, it seems like the stage is being set for something wild to happen.

Don't be a victim of the Normalcy Bias, and go on thinking things have never got so bad before, when they have, but no one remembers the Great Depression, but I'm sure those of us that are older hear horror stories about it from our parents and grandparents.
It's not a bad idea to put some of your cash into other valuable assets.
And to perhaps stock up some extra non-perishable food, Just in case. Canned food can be stocked up, and rotated as you use it, newer items to the back of the shelf, and older items to the front. Rice and Beans and last a long time. Canned meats, are better than no meat. Avoid things requiring refrigeration, since if a crisis does happen, there will most likely be no electricity. Keep your gas tanks full, in case you need to get out of the area.
You might think of things that you can barter with, ammo, food, medical supplies, cigarettes/tobacco, whatever you can think of, that you can use to barter, Old silver coins may be good. Many Gold and Silver retailers offer a mixed bags of old silver coins in various denominations, a couple thousand dollars of those might come in handy for barter. The thing is, you can't eat it or drink it, so it might not be the best thing in certain instances. A lot would depend on the person you are bartering with, and what his needs are,

And then there are the things you might want to stock up on for your own use or for barter: Spices like Salt and Pepper are always good. I've heard Black Pepper can be extremely valuable as few people have more than one can of it, and probably some of the more common spices, like cinnamon, sugar, Italian and Mexican type spice, oregano, cumin, basil, thyme, rosemary, onion and garlic powder, ask the lady of the house what spices she uses most often and stock up on them. Flour, Baking Soda and Powder, etc, Popcorn lasts a long time and is a great "comfort food". Powdered Milk and Eggs. Toilet Paper is something you might not think about, but would be nice to have plenty of, both for barter and for household use. Cooking oil, assorted nuts, dried fruits, beef or deer jerky, honey. Coffee is a big one, buy an extra can or 2 when it's on sale. Alcohol, (Probably the strong stuff like whiskey or vodka so you can use it as a disinfectant as well as a beverage), even if you don't drink, it's a good barter item. Candles, juice powders, peanut butter, ramen noodles are cheap, and last a long time. Baby food is very important for those who need it or it might come in handy as a barter item, or you can eat it yourself if you need too. And plenty of good potable water. Or a source of water nearby, such a river, stream, or lake, and a good water filter. Bleach, can be used to kill bacteria. A halfway decent water filter can me made by taking a piece of hose, or PVC pipe, and finding a branch that fits into is very snugly then cutting off abour a 3" section and put it in the hose or pipe, and letting water filter through that. That will remove most impurities, you will still probably want to boil it to kill any bacteria. It takes awhile for the water to drip through it. I think a large round section of clear plastic hose in as large of diameter you could get would be perfect, then insert your chunk of branch, and put a couple hose clamps around it so no water sneaks past the branch. It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to get a professionally made survivalist or "prepper" type water filter, instead of messing around and trying to build your own. There are several options available. Storing up some tap water wouldn't be a bad idea either, every time you empty a milk container, wash it out real well then fill it with water and store it away some place dark, so algae won't grow in it.
And don't forget about your pets, extra dog and cat food.
Sit back and think about what you'd miss if you didn't have it and stock up.

A good source of Penicillin can be found in Aquarium/Tropical fish stores, Fish-Pen is the brand name, and it's the same basic Penicillin the Dr. gives you. Veterinary supply, and Farm Supply stores also have antibiotics. Although it seems like much of that needs to be kept in the cooler.
Diabetics should look into alternative means of regulating blood sugar. Their are a lot of websites that explain how to maintain a good blood sugar level using things besides insulin or metformin. There is also information about alternatives to medicines for High Blood Pressure, and many other common ailments.
If you have some meds you need for some unusual condition, you might ask your Dr. if he would let you stock up on some.
Extra bottles if Aspirin, Tylenol, Ibuprofen, one a day type vitamins, Benadryl, or allergy medicines, and cough and cold remedies are good to stock up on.

Sorry for the book, I am just trying to be helpful. and share some info that I have obtained on how to ride out an economic collapse, or some other major crisis that will cause food shortages, and food riots or worse.
Heck, many of the suggestions can be used to ride out a bad storm, if nothing else.

Anyway it's up to you to reach your own conclusions and take what actions you believe you need too.

Lots of good info there Tman, I appreciate you taking the time to post it....I agree that we are due for a fall from within...We have weakened our military to pre WWII levels, we are in debt up to our eyeballs and our current and possibly next President (Hillary) are perceived as weak and a laughing stock all around the globe....I feel strongly that bad times are coming and the time to prepare is now...

Thanks for the kind words getsome and AIRret. I hope and I pray I am wrong too, but everywhere I look, their are warnings, about an economic collapse.
The thing with the Petrodollar, is the most worrisome, as it really will have a terrible effect on our economy if OPEC abandons the dollar. And that looks closer to happening every day.
Then you have FATCA going into effect July 1st, where they are going to start taxing your foreign investments. They "require" any foreign bank to disclose the account information of any US citizens they have an account for. Of course they can't really force a foreign institution to do anything, but if they don't comply, the IRS grabs a 30% chunk of any deposits being made to banks that haven't complied.
And we've pretty much screwed ourselves, buy making it too expensive and too big of a headache to try and open a new manufacturing facility here, or expand an existing one, the IRS, and the EPA, OSHA, and all the other beaurocrat agencies, with unelected radical libtards in charge, business have expanded off shore, leaving us with mostly service type jobs. I really can't blame them, when you have a Government that is very anti-business, unless it's Monsanto, or Inurance/Banking, or Big Pharmaceutical companies. Or any other types of business that employs a large amount of lobbyists. Oh, and of course anything having to do with "Green" technology.
