  • Arguing with a liberal

    Ladies and Gents,

We recently lost a member who taught me some things:

I would like to say openly that I am sorry to see him go. Counterpoint breeds healthy discussion. It's just a shame that he couldn't keep his discourse respectful. It's everyone's loss IMHO. He closed a few good threads too.

He gave me a first hand lesson on how liberals argue. They put words in your mouth then criticize you for what they said you said. Better yet, if they can get under your skin, they will drag you down to their level. Then it is easy for them to act superior. It's textbook liberal debate. And it's extremely irritating.

So the moral of the story: don't let the MF'er get to you. Take a breath and take the high road.

One last comment: it must be a terrible burden for him to be so angry all the time. Count your blessings folks. We are the good guys. Thanks!

Do you feel it was an error in expediting his loss or travel accommodations as I like to refer them?

No Colonel. You did good. This is a friendly place. We don't need that kind of grief. And his level of disrespect was unforgivable. I hope the next troll who comes along handles herself/himself better.

Actually, I admire your restraint allowing him to last as long as he did. He didn't deserve it.

        Good thoughts b4uqzme.

I saw the second thread that got locked after I had to do as you said and just walk away from the ACA discussion. I love to argue, but I require the opposing side to at least back up what they preach w/ some facts or logic. Neither were coming from him in that case. He happened to make some good points in the second thread (where he got the boot), but alas, in the midst of his decent points, he couldn't refrain from degrading the opposition with nasty disrespectful degrading comments and what amounted to name calling.

There have been a handful of folks here that I have chosen to avoid. There are also a few that I disagree w/ from time to time, yet we are still able to remain civil and agree to disagree. But when you start trashing people like in the threads in question, time for you to go I suppose. I personally don't care if he's allowed back or not. I'm one he had a particular interest in trashing and accusing of things that were beyond ridiculous, and if he came back and wanted to really discuss something and remain on topic, so be it, I'm there! I wasn't one of the requestors, but I'm sure there were plenty and there was plenty of good reasons to dump the guy.

I'm pretty sure I'm on the short list of people to eventually dump as well. I somehow tend to be one of those that end up in the fray...frequently. If I'm banned someday, so be it. I shant shed a tear.

Good work Bawanna! Thanks for being one of the folks doing the hard stuff.

After reading the recent thread, I can honestly say your point is pretty spot on. I've had these experiences in person with a few liberals, and it just gets worse & worse the longer the conversation. While reading the thread, I was actually appalled at the criticism directed to fellow members. Thankfully, the thread was closed!

Too bad. However I learned a long time ago to never argue. In an argument, both sides have their opinion and are locked in. Things usually go from bad to worse if you don't know the other person. I will discuss anything with anyone with an open mind. Try to keep mine that way.
I believe Bawanna was very patient and shut it down when he should have.

I like to think we're open for controversy and debate. There are folks here who I sometimes and occasionally even frequently disagree with. That doesn't give me the slightest urge to hit the vaporize button just because I don't agree even though I know they are wrong of course.
In fact it's usually quite the opposite, I won't hit the button if it looks like that's the only way I can prevail if you follow my drift.

What I take issue is negativity and continual disrespectful post. Or my favorite, what I call baiting post. Say something you know is gonna tick off about 98% of the membership and then act all surprised when all the flamethrowers on high!

We got a very good place here and I'd be totally devastated if JohnH pulled my plug. I'd cry my heart out, and I'm totally ashamed to admit it.

That's what I get for being away for a couple of days. I have no idea what you all are talking about, but it sure sounds like it was fun.

How'd your trip go Rev? Everybody holding up and moving forward?

Had a funeral today for my moms boyfriend. He was 85. They came back from my nieces wedding in Vegas and mom ended up in the hospital with pneumonia, he came to visit and nurses took one look at him and hauled him to emergency. Had em both in the same ICU room for a few days.

Mom got better pretty quick, he unfortunately didn't make it.

Quite a guy, we got along well. He was proud of his Scottish decent although he was born here. Played bagpipes all his life, was a high up in the Highlanders.

I had no idea he had some many friends and family. Large crowd.

Welcome back. Terrible circumstances for your travel. You missed a little drama. I think the colonel handled it well though. Colonel has a tough job here sometimes keeping this dysfunctional family together.

Don't feel bad Rev., I've been here the whole time and I don't know what they are talking about, but then again I've always have been a little slow. I was once passed by soil erosion in PA.

After reading HOW he worded his recent responses, I was not surprised to see him go and kind of cautioned him to be a bit nicer...."please" in his last thread. I agree that there is absolutely nothing wrong with debate and disagreement....even when I'm right....LOL. Seriously, the forum is about sharing and debating issues and there is no reason to make things personal. It can be easy to sit and type without remembering there are people on the other end. Not to mention that this format of communication is not the best and things can be taken out of context, misspelled horribly and miscommunicated. What's interesting is that some of us may think we might not like someone based solely on their typed messages. In reality, if we really got to know that person, in person, we could turn out to be very good friends for life. For this reason, I hold no grudges against anyone here...honestly. I have also learned to temper myself more and also to avoid or skip over some of the discussions here....particularly on caliber and ammo preferences as well as politics. However, I do enjoy a good debate from time to time, IF it seems to be a sincere dialog and not a trash call. I guess this deleted guy received a warning before he was bounced, so Bawanna did right. The warning is a good thing... to give someone a chance to learn how to fit in. Best to not be on the short list if participation is the goal. The forum goes on.

Recently there seems to have been a troll infestation on several gun forums. Could be coincidence or the same person using different screen names.
                              Rest in peace Muggsy
