When we lived there in about 1970 (I was a kid) my parents said it was run by the mafia. Kind of a Little Chicago. Dunno how true that is or was.

I do believe in redemption. There are some people behind bars for non violent crimes that do rehabilitate. They paid their dues and should be given a second chance. I would want that for myself.

We lived there from 1954 to '57. It was crooked then, but not as bad as East St.Louis.
