I've gotten a bunch of political calls from the NRA. I didn't answer any of them, but googled the phone number.

Now that it's a little late, it might be fun to talk to a Dem fundraising caller, just to really mess with them.

Get out and vote, everyone - it is our DUTY.
Duty, - a word most of our youth don't understand. They noisily stand up vigorously for their rights, but fall down miserably on their duties.

Sometimes I wonder if we should have a law where if you don't vote in 3 consecutive elections (ANY 3 including the "small" ones), you lose your rights as a citizen.

Deadeye, I was just having a conversation about the fundraising this afternoon. Why do they spend millions and millions of dollars to get a job that pays 150 grand a year? I make decent money but I sure wouldn't ask people to give me a million dollars so I could pay to get my job. I read the other day that candidates are chosen on their ability to raise money. I'm 41 years old, has politics always been run that way?

There has always been big money involved, but a lot of it under the table. For instance. I was born and raised in Nevada. Harry Reid was a poor boy from Searchlight, NV. He got into politics and finally into the senate years ago. He sure can manage money well. On a $20,000 a year salary he became a multimillionaire in just a few years. Curious? It is just more open now and much more greed is involved all around. In 2008 and 2012 the Dems got on a money raising kick. With Ovomit's silver tounge they did great. The Repubs jumped on the band wagon and it is now completely out of hand. I am now totally disgusted with both parties. I will not vote Republican as much as I will vote anti Democrat. Hell of a way to vote.

Unless you get your message out to the public you have no chance of being elected. Unfortunately that requires advertising and that takes money. A lot of votes are a result of name recognition. Of course there are also many uninformed individuals who vote strictly by initials like R, D, or I. I vote for the man or woman, not the party.

Why do you find it necessary to hold your nose when voting for a republican if the republican is the lesser of two evils. I proudly vote for the more conservative of the candidates.

Because it's like wanting a .45ACP, and only having 9mm and .40 to pick from. Neither is a .45 and never ever will be.

I agree about name recognition. But when I receive 20 or so glossy 8X10 fliers a week from the same candidate with the same message and my e-mail inbox is flooded with over 100 e-mails a day it gets a little tiresome. I also rarely vote along party lines but this election will decide control of the Senate so I'll vote straight republican hoping something will change. Hey! I can dream can't I.
