Especially since they celebrate Christmas in Shinto/Buddhan/Confuscian Japan! Christmas - as a secular holiday - has become almost universal, excepting of course, in the Mohammadan dominated regions.

Works for me.
Select the appropriate number of days, space them throughout the year, attach them to weekends instead of specific dates, and make them the same for both private and public sector workers.

I well remember my days working in the private sector where we got Christmas off if it happened to fall on a Sunday.

You didn't get paid if you didn't work, and if you worked hard you got paid more than the leech that didn't work at all got fired.

Now I have to have the Violets tell me when not to come to work, awkward to come here and nobody is here to boss me around and tell me what to do and basically nag me into wanting to work at our soon to open WalMart as a door greeter.

The elimination of Christmas would bankrupt a lot of big retailers that count on Christmas sales to turn a profit for the year.
That being said, Christmas has become more of a secular holiday than anything to do with Christ.
I don't mind that, since Christ was born nowhere near Christmas. The Romans converted pagan holidays celebrating the Winter Solstice and the birth of various pagan gods, into Christmas.
A group using modern star and planet tracking technology, showed that the great conjunction of stars and planets that was the sign the 3 Wise men observed, happened around September 26th, 03 bc. The former pope also admitted Christ was born nowhere near Christmas. Christmas trees, wreaths, yule logs, and other traditions were also adopted from pagan practices. The prophet Daniel foresaw the signs in the heavens, and left Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh, to be delivered to the Christ child when the great conjunction occured, allowing them to make their escape into Egypt and avoid the slaughter of the innocents, by King Herod. God himself told Moses not to adopt the ways of the heathens, and do those things in his name, it was an abomination. Of course the Romans ignored all this in their zeal to convert pagans to Christianity, told them they could keep their traditions, only to do them for Christ, instead of the pagan gods. The bible in Jerimiah Chapter 10 even warns against putting up "Christmas" trees, as a pagan practice. Back in the days of the Puritans, it was forbidden to celebrate Christmas. The publications of "A Visit from St. Nicholas" (Twas the night before Chrismas) and A Christmas Carol help to re-popularize the holiday.
