  • No privacy for Facebook users from Govt. Agencies.

According to a recent article I read, on one of those alternate news sites, Facebook is coming out with a new User Agreement, that will give them permission to snoop through your computer, on behalf of Federal Govt. agencies, including DHS, CIA, FBI, and others. And not just files associated with Facebook, they are supposedly able to snoop through your whole computer much like any other hacker can.
So far I have not encountered this new agreement, so I don't know if it's a hoax, or they just up and did it without any notice or exactly what is going on.
I can see it now, you post too much anti govt. stuff, so they snoop through your computer and find a picture of your kid in the tub or something, and all of a sudden you are a charged as being a pedophile. I would think this qualifies as a warrantless search, but the courts are probably all for it.
Like I said, I haven't seen anything official from Facebook yet, but I can see this type of thing happening. I hear Facebook is already used by Law Enforcement for checking out background information on suspects quite frequently.

I also saw this floating around in early December, and it's false (check out all the crazy boogaboo fact-checked on Snopes sometime - the amount of bogus conspiracy theory out there is astonishing).

In truth, FaceBook is adamant about not being used as a tool by state and federal agencies unless required by law because they have neither the manpower nor the desire to sully their brand with mistrust. That said, the Patriot Act, supported by both parties, grants agencies a lot more leeway than it was ever sold to have.

I've decided to post all of my dissatisfaction with the gubment on kartalk.

You know facebook can do the same thing all the telephone companys have done already with their switches. Give a full control admin port to the feds so they can do what they want when they want. Thank you Bill Clinton.
The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

Well, if you're going to blame Bill Clinton, be sure to include Dick Cheney, George Bush, Barak Obama and all the congressmen who repeatedly reauthorize the Patriot Act and other authorities for law enforcement to snoop on us. Whether one feels it's worth it seems to be a highly personal matter more than a broad-stroke political party indictment.

Oh, and not to scare ya, but don't for a moment believe that the Patriot Act applies less to KahrTalk than FaceBook. Taps were placed in network switches, not individual service provider data centers - that was their point. ;-/

I'll admit I need it too - I've been sick with the flu since Christmas Day and might be a little contrarian at the moment

I can agree with most of that. Clinton started the open network access and everyone after him has used/abused it. How much do you figure the current admin has abused CALEA ? I would guess more for personal agenda benefit than others too.

And yep, unlike love and fortune the internet is forever. I've back spaced through more critical post than i can count.
