That a rather rash generalization. Have you ever been to a tea party meeting?

Two of my good friends are tea party members, I've chatted with a number at gun show booths and my town has a very organized and active anti-tax tea party enclave that shows up at school board and city council meetings every election year, especially whenever there's a levy up for renewal. I've yet to hear any of them support a tax, regulation, agency or benefit that they themselves weren't already directly benefitting from. They sure are against a lot of stuff though.

I agree all cigarettes should be thrown into the Hudson river because they kill people. Wait. So do cars, buses, airplanes, swimming pools, bicycles, hammers, golf clubs, obesity and guns. I thing they should all be confiscated and destroyed. What? Guns are a right because of the 2nd amendment. That can be handled quite easily. Repeal the thing. Problem solved and we will all live very safe lives. Except for knives and ---------. How many personal liberties are we willing to give up in the name of "safety" as described by out bureaucrats. As Ive said before - I don't condone smoking but if my neighbor wants to have a cigarette it is his business.
