  • good news at Walmart

Walmart CEO Doug McMillon ($25.6 million pay package) announced that "Wal-Mart is raising wages for some 500,000 hourly employees because worker pride in the company is vital to running a good retail business, CEO Doug McMillon told CNBC on Thursday. "We make wage adjustments all the time. We just decided this is a really good moment to be more bold," Doug McMillon said in a "Squawk Alley" interview. "Right now we want to make sure everybody is crystal clear how vital our store experience is to our future." McMillon spoke on CNBC after Wal-Mart (WMT) announced that hourly workers will earn at least $1.75 above the the current federal minimum wage, or $9 per hour starting in April. By next February, they will earn at least $10 per hour. McMillon said Wal-Mart is trying to position itself ahead of the market in order to retain the best talent available as the employment situation continues to improve." now the reason McMillon makes the big bucks is his ability to spew this information to the press, while keeping a straight face. "store experience", bahwahhahahahaha!!

Great, now to pay for it they will only have one register open out of 36 instead of the two they normally have....

I've been saying the same thing. I have no career future now.

We have a new Walmart here in town and it's the new go to place in town for shoplifter. Probably 10 or 12 arrest weekly and of course they are probalby missing 5 times that many.
Yesterday the Loss Prevention folks brought over a 100 piece chicken box, tater salad and corn for all the trips the officers been making.
First time I had Walmart chicken but it was really really good. Don't know if it was the particular person making it, or if it's always good but it was really good.

I thought about loss prevention when they did away with the greeter but they don't allow no guns. I see where they are coming from with young folks and all but I'm a well oiled, face shooting, killing machine.

They didn't want me to carry a gun as a greeter either. I thought a greeter would be the perfect last defense waiting at the door ready to grab miscreants. But nooooooooo..................................

Now it's gonna be even harder to find the guy with the key to the ammo cabinet in the evenings. It's hard enough now. I like to buy my range ammo there for the prices and stock but it's a real chore to find anyone who has a key and can open the cabinet. Usually I have to go to the automotive dept. to find someone, and then it's wait, wait, wait while they take care of the automotive customers first, then will come open the ammo cabinet. Sorry for the rant, but they sure don't make it easy for people to buy stuff there...

Honestly, the service went into the toilet at my local Walmart THE VERY DAY after a certain person was elected president. The "we ain't gotta work so hard no mo now" attitude was loud. It got where every Walmart in the central part of the state had half empty to completely empty shelves every day. Then last year the local news did an expose' on one store south of here and heads rolled. There was new management and lots of it in every store within local TV range and the "we ain't gotta work so hard no mo" employees were VERY ANGRY when you saw them now working. They still didn't want to help but by golly they were stocking the shelves. A lot of them are gone now too. They must really be looking for better workers now but i blame our local store decline on el presidente and his hope and change.
The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

No guns, or no guns for employees?
If it is no guns, there's no signs on our local WM so it must be a regional thing.

Higher hourly pay, fewer hours assigned, under the threshhold for Obamacare, lots of tricks to play there.

if your looking for a job in box store retail, try this--
"The company pays a living wage. Costco's CEO and president, Craig Jelinek, has publicly endorsed raising the federal minimum wage to $10.10 an hour, and he takes that to heart. The company's starting pay is $11.50 per hour, and the average employee wage is $21 per hour, not including overtime."
if you aren't familiar with Costco, it's kind of like Sam's, but the folks that work at Costco are smiling.
"As President and Chief Executive Officer at COSTCO WHOLESALE CORP, W. Craig Jelinek made $5,614,386 in total compensation. Of this total $650,000 was received as a salary, $90,400 was received as a bonus, $0 was received in stock options, $4,783,200 was awarded as stock and $90,786 came from other types of compensation." that's way off the $25 million of the Walmart CEO. maybe Jelinek just isn't as greedy. a guy could get by on $5.6million if his wife can budget.

If the wages at Cosco are much higher than Walmart's, then I presume their prices are terrible, they have lazy service because it's given to them on a platter, there are fewer people on the payroll and there's no capital left for expansion. That's what conservative economics say anyway, and I can't confirm because I don't have a membership due to not needing bulk goods.
