Racially motivated or not, it seems Ferguson Police are pretty quick to escalate minor differences into trips to unconstitutional searches and detention, and/or trips to jail. It would appear many of them (and not just in Ferguson) think they make the law, not enforce it...

Tom I love everything about your post except the linkage to Obama trying to create racial division. I honestly think that regardless of what we individually think about the efficacy of his methods, that he believes he's on a course of unification more than division. I think that HE thinks there's short-term pain needed while the bandage is ripped off before real healing begins and racism is dealt with as the ignorant generalization it is, in all directions. Again, each of us is able to interpret his methods individually, but that's what I believe about that.

Anyway, other than that I think you're spot on in every other regard and there's no way I could have said it better.

here in the St.Louis metro area there are 92 little, goofy burgs that ring the city, Ferguson being one of them. the Ferguson cops(under trained and not qualified to work a better dept.) are there to write revenue generating tickets, stop the occasional fight or mostly- show up after the crime to write a report. if any thing like a murder happens the small town cops go to plan B, which is acting as road guards and crowd control for the pro's from St.Louis County Police or the Major Case Squad or theMo. Highway Patrol to do the actual investigation and evidence collecting.
Several of the little burgs have no police dept. and rent that service from County. to reduce their exposure to liability, towns like Ferguson should have signed a contract to rent County Cops, years ago. actually there has been a movement to get rid of the 92 villages and small towns and go to a unified St.Louis City and County. the streamlining and getting rid of service duplications would save the area millions and bring some across the board professionalism to this region. of course this would mean all the little jumped up local politards would have to find a new hobby and places to steal from-- oh, well.

Be careful what you ask for. Many times the devil you know is better to deal with than the devil you don't.

You're still inferring intent based on personal interpretation of his actions. Then you're CAPITALIZING them to assert undeniable fact. Maybe that's how strongly you feel, but that doesn't establish them as universal any more than I can say artichokes with salt and butter are universally awesome (though the truly are).

It's also en-vogue to think that someone with a different interpretation than your own is anti-American, but this can be played the other way around too, which I think reveals the position's flaws. For example, many truly believe that the previous administration was anti-American by leaving us vulnerable to a domestic attack, sucking us into two simultaneous and decade-long wars, deregulating banks and then bailing them out when deregulation allowed 'em to concentrate extreme fiscal risk, establishing torture at Guantanamo and sullying our moral integrity. I don't think that - I think they were just misguided. Expensively, harmfully misguided, but I do believe that Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rove and the like were personally convinced they were doing the right thing for the country but just had horrible policies.

I feel similarly about Prez O, and calling him a sycophant hell-bent on the USA's harm would be considered treasonous in a truly fascist state. Thankfully, it's only common forum fodder. My point is not to deny you your strong feelings on the matter, but to point out the disconnect between interpretation and fact, particularly since you focused on the one bit of my post that disagreed with you and seemed to disregard the rest. Focusing on what divides us isn't coming just from the Prez.

Oh, and my the way, I called Bush my Prez, and Clinton the Prez, and Carter the Prez, and Reagan the Prez and Ford the Prez. It's a show of respect for the position, and the greatness of our country's political process. Seems some find it better these days to use derogatory terms to express their flavor of patriotism.

I respect the office of the President but it is an ignorant/liberal smarminess to say I have to respect the President himself as they are NOT the same thing to educated and intelligent adults. Like muggsy stated he has to EARN respect.
