  • Kansas Congress Passes Constitutional Carry Bill. Awaits Governors Signature

Yesterday the Kansas House passed a bill to allow Constitutional Carry. It has already passed the in the Senate. One small detail needs to be worked out on a minor difference in the bills, then it will head to the Governor for signing. We have a conservative Republican Governor, Sam Brownback, that will most likely sign it.

I wonder how this will affect our reciprocity agreements with other states?

From my understanding, the few states that have Constitutional carry require a CCW permit to carry in other states. In other words, you can carry in your own state without a permit but to carry in another state you must have the permit.

Colorado is working on the same thing as I type.

Most likely won't as long as Kansas continues to issue permits with no substantive changes to the underlying requirements.

Arkansas passed Constitutional carry earlier this year but suggests we keep our CCW permit for states that don't have it.

In Florida, when Constitutional Carry passes in another state that has reciprocity with Florida, they lose the CCW reciprocity. Florida law has a specific twist in it... stupidly... that makes it a no go, even if you have a yet to be expired CCW from the state in question.

I've never understood why I needed a permit to exercise a constitutional right.

Well...that's truly odd behavior from a state that's always been in the forefront of enlightened concealed carry law.

Kansas was at the front end of denying gun rights to the cowboys that would come into the cowtowns. Check your hand guns at the Sheriffs office, pick em up when you leave. Unconstitutional, but it probably saved a few lives. It worked out ok at that time. Thankfully those days are long gone.

It was funny, the comments page of the local paper was full of that "blood in the streets" crap recycled from when concealed carry first started working it's way through the legislature. One jerkwad was wanting to put in metal detectors everywhere to save us from the "ammosexuals" LOL.

I don't see how we let them regulate or guns. Too many people stood by and watched it happen. The same way we are standing by and watching our country torn down. We will sit and write letters to our congressmen, but will we get off our ass and do anything about it? March on Washington DC? The gays took a noisy minority of 2 or 3 percent and made great progress by being noisy and protesting and demonstrating and filing BS lawsuits. Perhaps we could learn something from them.
