Totally unrealistic foreign policy. I blame paternal influence

I think we could do way worse. I'd like somebody like Trey Gowdy to run. He seems honest and a no b.s. kind of guy.

He and his dad are about as free market politically as anyone I know... but I don't disagree with SlowBurn.

They also appear to me to be less corrupt(able). Key word there = "appear".

Rand Paul isn't a conservative. He's a libertarian. He supports the legalization of marijuana for recreational use. We have enough problems in this country without that. There are far better candidates than Rand Paul like Gov. Mike Pence of Indiana, or John Thune Senator from S. Dakota. Both are rock solid conservatives.

Replace the alcohol problem with a pot problem, and we would have a lot less violence. Just sayin.

Sorry, but I don't want the pilot of the plane that I'm flying in to be high on either drugs or alcohol and likewise the President of the United States. Can you say Choom Gang?

I don't want any of those people high or drunk either. And I don't indulge in either, anymore But the trouble makers would be eating Doritos, rather than out stealing and killing.

I don't disagree. But if you try to be a free market / minimalist government purist like me you do take some bad (some risks) along with the "greater good". How's that for borrowing a commie term? In truth the old adage: "everything in moderation" is a good principle too. Problem is with current politics...there is no middle ground anymore.

What difference does it make if someone is high on pot or alcohol?. Ask a cop if he'd rather deal with a some on pot or someone on a drunk. We've all been brainwashed that pot is so bad, when it has quite a few medical uses, and few health risks. The hemp plant has a lot of uses too, but that is outlawed too, when it has nothing in it that will get a person high. I agree that I don't want an airline pilot drunk or high. Or taxi or bus drivers. Colorado and Washington seem to be doing ok with legalized pot. People are going to take what they want to take whether it's legal or not.
Most people that are against pot, have never smoked it, and don't have any idea what it does to a person. They just go by the govt. propaganda. Kind of like the people that have never shot a gun, wanting to ban them because of their fears and the crap the govt. has put out.

                        Makes sense to me:

“National defense is the number one priority of the federal government. My amendment increases defense spending but pays for it with spending cuts. It is irresponsible and dangerous to continue to put America further into debt,” Paul said on the Senate floor. “We need a strong national defense but we should be honest with the Americana people and pay for it.” R. Paul per the article.

Here's an article on Rand Paul and foreign policy. The point of the article is directed toward political "process" (can he win the nomination) but it summarizes foreign policy positions he's taken which I think are wrong, including opposing sanctions on Iran.
Why Rand Paul can't win the Republican nomination
