Lawrence is home to Kansas University, sometime basketball powerhouse, all time football flop. It's the place the preppies go to school if they stay in state. And it is the liberal hotspot of a normally very conservative state. My 2 youngest went to K-State in Manhattan, where the good farm families and conservative folks send their children. Most of the state got a bick kick out of Wichita State knocking KU out of the NCAA Tournament. KU refuses to play WSU normally, they don't want to get beat by a mid-major team. KU used to live for their one football victory, which came against K-State, until Bill Snyder arrived at K-State and turned the football program into a perennial top 20 team. KU has had 2 good football teams that I can remember 1968's Orange Bowl team, and a few years back they had a pretty good season and went to a bowl. Then back to mediocrity the next year.Tom
