  • EPA river spill -conspiracy theory time

They knew this would happen but did it anyway to justify an expensive treatment plant?

That sounds very plausible to me, particularly now that the EPA has come out and said the spill was 100% their fault. I believe that is the first time I've ever heard of a gov't agency take responsibility for a screw up, yet they never notified anyone of the screw up when it happened.

Of course, now they are saying everything is just fine with the Animas river. Funny things is, as far as I know, heavy metals tend to sink in water. Lead, mercury and others will be on the bottom for many, many years to come. What didn't settle in the river will be carried to Lake Powell.

    Yep, everything is just fine!

Everything's just fine! Tell that to BP!

I always thought the BP spill in the Gulf was grossly exaggerated.

Remember there is a big fight about the new gold mining operation that wants to go in in Alaska. The EPA and the "greenies" have it stopped right now. The Alaskan people are fighting to let it happen. Big Brother says it might possibly cause pollution. Didn't this spill happen at a great time for them? Coincidence, I'm sure.

There is always a big dispute over the clean-up of heavy metal in the Cuyahoga River. Should it be left buried in the sediment where it does very little harm, or to dredged up and dumped in the open waters of lake Erie. Great Lakes shipping needs the channel depth. We need safe drinking water. Regardless of how it's handled the taxpayer is left holding the bag.

I read today that five months ago the town of Silverton told the EPA they did not want them messing around with the mines in the area for fear that the EPA would turn the entire area into a Superfund site. Silverton survives on tourists. When tourists hear the word "Superfund" they stay away. There are over 200 mines up in the mountains that have been shut down for years. The Gold King Mine hasn't been in operation since 1923 yet the EPA in all it's wisdom decided something must be done. They were warned about what could happen and disregarded what anyone had to say.
