Congrats! They are the only massive force that has saved us from liberal gun grabber's constant assault on the 2A.

Congrats! While I don't agree with every stance they have, I too joined the NRA as a Life Member earlier this week. I believe they are our best bet to battle the left-wing anti-gun folks. Long live the 2A as it was written! It is not about hunting. Hopefully, we will never need to use a weapon against another person but every American owns the RKBA.

I have been an annual member since 1960. Every year! I bought a membership for my girlfriend too.

I'm not a life member, but have done annually for the last two years. I'm like fitpro, in that I always don't agree but without them we'd wouldn't be where we're at today.

Congrats to the OP on getting your permit for concealed carry.

As far as signing up as an NRA life member, don't think that just because you ponied up a huge chunk of change that the NRA will simply thank you and leave you alone to enjoy your new hat. Brace yourself for the constant requests for donations to the other pet projects of the NRA.

Yeah I thought about the donation request thing after I signed up.... O well now i guess... just deal with the junk mail as it comes.
Im not always with the NRA on everything, but I figured as of now its the best thing I can do to help ensure we keep our 2A rights.

No worries! Once you get a feel for what you don't want them to send, make a phone call to member services. The guy who handled my polite but firm request to stop the tide was very effective, polite and helpful.

At first, I tried using the website with limited success. Calling and spending time on the phone to ensure the bases are covered really worked for me.

I still get an occasional note from Wayne LaPierre, but the steady stream of stuff we used to just discard has been gone for several years.

                    Life is good.
It would be so nice if something made sense for a change.

I feel you got more than a hat in the deal...

Congrats and yes you can get the mailings toned down with a little effort.
I was once asked if I was "a paranoid for carrying my Kahr".
                      "Nope" I said, "just prepared".
" prepared for what" he asked?

Been a lifer since '84 or '85, can't remember for sure. I used to get a "donation request" pretty much every month. I have given to them on several occasions, but I'm just as comfortable dropping one of their letters in the recycle bin on my way back to the house.
I don't really mind the "asking" so much, I hate to think what our gun rights might be if the NRA hadn't been there all these years.
When you can't make them see the light,
                        make them feel the heat.

Well I'd add one more: the Second Amendment Foundation: www.saf.org

The NRA is great at working with the legislative branch (Congress) to get good bills passed and bad bills squashed. The NRA is also great at training, supporting hunter concerns & access, etc. But the SAF is leading the fight in the judicial branch. Think of them as the ACLU for the good guys, specifically gun rights.

The SAF led the fight on Heller (which for the first time in US history the Supreme Court explicitly said the 2A applies to individuals) and in McDonald (where the SCOTUS expanded their previous Heller ruling beyond the District of Columbia and out to all 50 states.)

The SAF is now leading a state-by-state fight in those remaining non-carry states (e.g. Illinois, Maryland, etc.) and is helping to get rid of bad state laws already on the books (e.g. North Carolina's ability to ban guns in a declared emergency). Just scroll down on their main home web page and you can see a portion of the impressive list of cases they're fighting in court.

I love both the NRA and the SAF. Both are worthy of our support, but each has its own specialties.

As for the NRA's constant begging for money - just call up the 800 number and ask them to take you off all fundraising solicitations. I did that years ago and haven't had a single piece of mail since. They don't want to waste the postage on someone who absolutely isn't going to contribute.
