Utah poised to join others in instate CCW no permit

Every now and then we get some reasonable politicians. Utah is set to join neighbor Wyoming, plus Montana, Vermont, Alaska and Arizona in allowing in-state residents to carry an un-chambered firearm concealed without a license. Wyoming, who passed legislation in 2012 to allow a resident to carry a loaded concealed firearm, has not had any "wild west" fallout from the law. What it does it make it handy for those out hunting, hiking or shooting to cover their pistols, rifles or knives up from the elements without being subjected to a concealed weapons charge.

It just makes too much sense, that why these other states don't do it!

Un-chambered? Really? I had no idea that Constitutional Carry states required that you not have a round chambered! That makes me a little uneasy. If you have to draw from concealment, you already have extra tasks to complete, now you gotta chamber a round in a split second to save your life. Nah, guess the grass isn't always greener. That sucks if that's how the law reads there. I'd have to go back to a revolver (leave the chamber under the hammer empty) or just get the CCW permit in that state anyway. That's just dumb.

Interesting point on education. In Mississippi as I understand the "open carry" laws is that a pistol carried in the open but in a holster is considered concealed and therefore you have to have a CCW to carry one holstered openly. That would be a more restricted position. I believe the focus of this Utah bill was to allow armed hunters, hikers and shooters to not be hassled in the field by over zealous leo's because it is raining and they cover their firearm from the rain or elements. I am not sure it is about education but about what you can get passed in a time of extreme pressure on firearms.

The way I read about this went like this. This unloaded part was added last minute as an amendment (guess the party that did it), also the revolver thing won't work. The way Utah defines unloaded means that the one next in line must be empty. So the hammer could be down on a round, and the one next to it has to be empty. If I recall, there has to be two actions needed to load it. Either way it was weird.
