The part I thought was interesting if i read it right was that until they pass a license law everyone could carry without a permit. I dont think I would want to be the one to test it with the police in DC.

Great news, but DC is probably googling for the most restrictive carry law to model its after.

The anti's are loosing bit by bit. Also the DC Federal Court has dealt Odumbass Care its death blow if the SCOTUS upholds the ruling.

This has got to make the liberal politicians in D.C. just a little bit nervous. They are no longer protected by their no guns allowed signs.

Yup...It's almost like he instucted his officers to enforce the law.

Kinda makes you wonder a few things:
Does the chief think carry will reduce crime?
Does the chief agree?
Does the chief know all people will all rise up and carry now and doesnt want to fill up the jails with good citizens?
Does the chief know the police force will arrest anyway and is trying to avoid lawsuits?

DC and the police chief are doing this only because they have no choice. The Palmer case orders them to allow carry for self defense purposes, and it is effective immediately. Since the Heller Supreme Court decision (also originating in DC), the SCOTUS found that the 2A applies to individuals, and is a fundamental civil right. Violations of civil rights can strip public officials of their immunities, often granted in their official capacity.

So for one day (Monday 7/29/14) at least, the District of Columbia was a Constitutional Carry area. No permit needed, open or concealed - the police order instructed their officers not to arrest people for carrying handguns, unless they were felons, or DC residents with unregistered guns (ref: Heller). However DC has requested a stay, and Alan Gura of the Second Amendment Foundation that brought the suit, said he would not object to a 90 day stay. I haven't seen the stay order issued yet, but I would be surprised if that didn't happen later today (now Tuesday). Up here at mdshooters.com we're debating the motivation and wisdom of that stay, and possible appeal by DC. Regardless, expect that shortly.

Even so the Palmer case does not negate other DC gun laws, such as 10 round magazines, so if you're trying to visit DC with a handgun during the window of opportunity, make sure you understand the other laws that still apply and that will be enforced.
