  • Suggestions for dovetail scope or red dot mounts

I have an early IMI manufactured 44 mag Desert Eagle, and am looking into mounting a scope or red dot. As it is the Mk I, it has the 3/8" dovetail. Most of the mounts I find are for 22 rifles, but I want to make sure I get something that can stand up to the recoil. Any suggestions on what will work?

Are you not interested in the original Picatinny rail adapter made for Desert Eagles prior to Mk I and VII? I don't remember anything mounting directly to the barrel without the rail adapter. Not suggesting it can't or hasn't been done, but I have not seen it done.

If you aren't familiar with these, they aren't too hard to find. I see them on eBay and GunBroker etc, fairly often. They can be had in silver and black finishes.

    Good luck...

What DE was prior to Mk I?

Thanks for the link, but the one in the link says it is for a XIX, which mine is not. Mine has the 3/8" dovetail, not the picatinny rail of the XIX. I will keep looking for a rail adapter, though.

I did find where Vortex has a 3/8" dovetail adapter for their Razor red-dot. I may end up going that route

I have a Vortex Sparc II red dot mounted on a rifle and like it a lot. The glass is nice and clear.
The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

          Sorry for the incorrect link.

Here is an example of the type I have... the auction is ended, but you can see if this is what you are looking for and if it will work for you.

I am not sure how well they work, as I have not used mine. I removed it from the Desert Eagle I got it with to re-finish the barrel, and generally shoot iron sites anyway.

Here is another style with the same function... this auction is also ended, so is just for reference.

Either way, I would like to know what you end up doing and mounting on the Desert Eagle.

Here is one on eBay. This is the first style I ever saw, and was the only option for years when the Desert Eagle came out.

I was hoping a black one would pop up for sale. I went ahead and snagged that one. Thanks again!

Just an update. I got the scope mount and it fits! However, the design of the mount requires that the front sight be drifted out in order for the mount to slide on from the front (the front sight sticks out of either side of the dovetail). I did not want to mess with the front sight, so I filed off just enough of the mount so it would pop over the corner of the dovetail on the barrel. Interestingly, the slot in the bottom of the mount allows me to still use the sights.
