  • Hornady Critical Defense Test

I've had many requests to test Hornady Critical Defense from a test barrel in the 2.5" to 3" range. Yesterday was test day and the Kahr P380 was the test barrel.

Nice. My Little Crappy Pistol LCP also likes CD. I carry these in my LCP currently cause i haven't had any failures and recoil seems to be the same as target rounds.

I've noticed that CD always seems that the petals fold back on it's self. They also seem to get fast expansion. But even though the overall diameter doesn't seem to be alot at the end, the early and midway points through the path seem to do alot of damage, cutting i mean. I'd like to know what the expansion is at it's largest point halfway through it's travel. I think these are a great buy for your money.

I use them as well. Just make sure that they feed in whatever pistols you use. I've seen some guns that don't like them at all.

My P380 eats them by the box and it's what I carry. I have heard others ding on the load, but it works great for me.

        Differnt strokes.
I was once asked if I was "a paranoid for carrying my Kahr".
        "Nope" I said, "just prepared".
" prepared for what" he asked?

Oh, I wasn't saying anything bad about them. I use them in 9, 380, and 38. They're great rounds. It's just a good idea to make sure they feed before you trust them.

That's what I carry in my LCP. They run flawless in Elsie and I've read a lot of good about them.

I carry them in my LCP and LC9, but use Golden Sabre's in my 1911 45ACP. I have a new CW45, and plan on carrying Speer Gold Dots for short barrel. The tests look good on them.

I use them in a P380 cause my beloved Gold Dots didn't like to chamber on the first round. Now that I did a magazine modification they seem to load all the easier. They even cycled the Gold Dots afterwards although not as smooth as the Crtical Defense nose configuration. I desided in the mean time to just feed it what it likes best.

I shot the Cd's tonight in my CM 40 and it jammed on every round. Put the Winchester FMJ's back in and it ran super smooth. Is it Hornady CD's or is it my CM?

I just got back from the range and ran a box of CD 115 gr. through my K9 with out any issues. I also ran some Golden Sabor 147 gr. through my K9 without a hitch.

Now I'm trying to decide with to use as my carry round. Is the 115 gr. to small or is the 147 gr. to big for the size barrel I have? Anybody have any thoughts on this?

Shoot what works for you. The K9 will eat anything.

It most definitely eats anything...I really like the 147gr. ammo, just not sure the the K9's barrel length can maximize the it's potential.
